Graveside services were scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 in the Blackwell Cemetery. Cremation has been affected. Military honors were to be presented by Spencer Ralston V.F.W. Post 1254. Charles was born Sept. 11, 1936, the son of Paul and Effie (Cowan) Beard, in Neodesha, KS. He grew up in Neodesha and graduated from high school in 1954. Charles soon joined the United States Navy, retiring in 1978. After retiring from the Navy, Charles went to work as a custodian for Conoco and retired after 15 years. He married Mary Beard on Aug. 25, 1982 in Suisun City, CA. The couple made their home in Blackwell before moving to Newkirk shortly after. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary and his son, Fred, both of the home; and one brother, Allen Beard, of Suisun City, California. Charles was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, and one brother, Clyde Beard.
