He was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Cozy Home, Ark. He was self-employed in the pipeline industry. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Mitchell and Gail Sorrels; and son, Samuel E. Darby Jr. Services: Private family graveside service will be at 2 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday, March 27, at Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, Okla. Information: 762-4435. Published in the Clovis News Journal on 3/17/2007. ========= Darby, Samuel Edwin Samuel Edwin Darby, age 86, of Clovis, N.M., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at the Retirement Ranch, in Clovis. He was born Oct. 9, 1920, to Francis C. and Ava Alice Brooks Darby, in Cozy Home, Ark. He married Dorothy F. Mitchell, on March 27, 1940, in Newkirk, Okla. He served in the United States Army during World War II, discharged as a Captain with a purple- heart. He was self-employed in the pipeline industry - Darby Construction. He was very devoted to his wife; enjoyed his work, flying, boating and camping. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Royce) Mitchell, of House, N.M. and Gail (Butch) Sorrels, of Kenai, Alaska; one son, Samuel (Judy) E. Darby Jr., of Cottonwood, Ariz.; three sisters, Evelyne Lynch, of Emporia, Kansas, Mildred Crumby, of Malvern, Ark. and Virginia Reichert, of Napa, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Kim Darby; and brother, Monty Joe Darby. A private family graveside service will be held for Samuel and Dorothy Darby at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Fairfax Cemetery, in Fairfax, Okla. Military honors will be provided by Fort Sill Army Honor Guard. Memorial contributions will be accepted by Hospice Helping Hand, 615 S. 2nd St., Tucumcari, N.M. 88401.
