Pilot Is Lost Over jungles BLACKWELL. April 20.-, Special, -Donald Roy Whipple, lieutenant in the air corps, lost his life April 12 when a plane he was piloting crashed in the jungles of Africa, according to word received here by relatives Monday. His mother, Mrs. Opal Whipple. lives here. A telegram sent to his father, Roy Whipple, at Wichita was forwarded here from the war department Monday and Mrs. Whipple received a telephone call from her son's wife. Mrs. Marjorie Whipple, at San Antonio. According to word received from Mrs. Marjorie Whipple, Lieutenant Whipple was flying a ship to Iraq. He was a non-combatant flier, and was presumed to be ferrying the ship across Africa, Twelve men were in the plane and all were killed. Mrs. Marjorie Whipple received a letter from her husband, that was received from Brazil, April 6. The telegram of the war department stated that Whipple's death was "not due to enemy action. and that he was buried with "military honors." The young man was reared here and is a graduate of the high school with the class of 1933. He also graduated in engineering Oklahoma A. and M. college three years later.
