Barnett Evelyn B. Barnett, former Newkirk area resident, died Feb. 7, 2003 in the McAlester Regional Health Center. She was 94. The daughter of Burt and Catherine (Scott) Smith, she was born May 21, 1908 at Kildare. She attended grade school in Kildare and Newkirk High School. She worked for a number of years as an agent for Globe Insurance Company of Oklahoma. In 1973 she and Carl DeLas Barnett were married in Wichita. They made their home in Winfield. For the past several years she has made her home in Quinton to be near her niece, Shirley Gable. Mrs. Barnett is survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in June 1995; her parents; two brothers, Fred Smith and Ray Smith; and five sisters, Flora Pilcher, Carie Andrews, Grace Cambell, Faye Yongue and Elva Thomas. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 10, 2003 in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Danny W. Cornish, minister of the Newkirk Church of Christ officiating. Committal and burial followed in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service.
