W. Harris E.W. Harris, former Ponca City businessman, died Saturday, July 13, 1996, at the Ponca City Nursing Home. He was 96. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ponca City First Christian Church Chapel with the Rev. Charles Heyer, associate minister, presiding. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery at Cheney, Kan. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Friends may visit at the funeral home until 9 a.m. Wednesday, then the casket will be closed. E.W. Harris was born June 3, 1900, at Cabool, Mo., the son of Henry Thomas and Julia Ann (Jones) Harris. At eight years of age he moved with his family to the Cheney area by covered wagon. He received his early education in the Murdock, Kan., area. On May 2, 1925, he was married to Thelma Irene McIntosh at Wichita, Kan., and the couple established their first home at Cheney. They later lived at Great Bend, Kan., before moving to Ponca City in 1960. Mr. Harris was a pharmacist by trade, and was employed at one time by the Graves Drug Store of Ponca City. He also owned and operated the Harris and Davis Paint Store at Third and Grand. Harris was a member of the Ponca City First Christian Church, where he had been very active in earlier years. He was also a member of the AMBUCS and the Rose Club. In earlier years he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Ponca City; one daughter, Maureen Harris of Clemson, S.C.; two brothers, Gilbert of Calhan, Colo., and Loren of Kingman, Kan.; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Verdi, Merritt, Odon, Urban, Harlan, Donald and Kenneth; and one sister, Dorothy Catanzaro.
