All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm =================================================================== Sherman 'Sherm' Fry Sherman Neal "Sherm" Fry, 51, Ponca City, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City, with Rev. Ed Coy Light, pastor, Grace United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Ponca City, with members of Troop 5, Boy Scouts of America, rendering honors. Fry was born Feb. 15, 1951, in Vinita, the son of Charles Herbert and Esther Gertrude Dawson Fry. He attended schools at Pryor graduating from high school there in 1969. He attended the University of Central Oklahoma, Rose State College, and the Northern Oklahoma College where he earned an associates degree. In 1990 he earned a bachelor of science in mechanized agriculture from Oklahoma State University. Prior to his retirement due to ill health, he worked as a purchasing agent for an electronics company. On Aug. 9, 1980, he and the former Kathy Irene Godsey were married in Ponca City. Fry was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and had served as a cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 17 and at the time of his death was an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 5. Additionally he had earned the B.S.A. Woodbadge. He held amateur radio call sign KI5IF and was a member of the Kay County Amateur Radio Club. His hobbies included scouting activities with his boys, amateur radio, astronomy, genealogy, storm spotting and gardening. Additionally, he had served as a Boy Scout merit badge counselor. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, Bill Charles Fry and John Edward Fry, both of the home; a daughter, Abby Lynn Fry of the home; a brother, John Charles Fry, Ponca City; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Casketbearers will be Fred Spellman, Bill Schula, Steve Connelly, Tom Wolf, Peter Hay and Devon Lechtenberg. Honorary casketbearers will be Edward Covington, Bill Johnson, Mike Collins, Matt Fry, Dennis Long and Jarred Fry. All scouters attending the service are asked if possible to please wear their uniforms. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, for leukemia research, 825 N.E. 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104 or to Boy Scout Troop 5, in care of Mike Gray, 403 Wren Place, Ponca City, OK 74601.
