He was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Kansas City, MO, to George and Bertha (Pappan) Baconrind. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gladys; one son, Tom, of Hays, KS; two grandchildren, Misty L. Baconrind Denny and Chad "Buck" Baconrind, both of Sandpoint, ID; grandson-in-law, Mark Denny; and granddaughter-in-law, Amy Baconrind; four great-grandchildren: Heather and Whitney Neely of Independence, MO, A.J. and Andrew Cook, and a step-great-grandson, Chad Denny, all of Sandpoint, ID; and numerous other relatives and friends. A son, Andy, and a great-granddaughter, Andrea, preceded him in death. George was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 515th Bomb Squadron in the European Theater with the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group, one of the oldest and most decorated bomb groups in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Baconrind was the grandson of Chief Bacon Rind of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma and served on the Osage Nation Tribal Council for 14 years. A memorial service celebrating George's life and the joy, love, and friendship he gave to so many was held in Harlingen, TX, and another service will be held in Newkirk, OK, at a later date.
