All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ****************************************************** Alcina Marie Bliss Grell Alcina Marie Bliss Grell, longtime Blackwell area resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 near Tulsa, the result of an automobile accident. Her loving daughter-in-law, Bella Horinek, died in the same accident. She was 72. The daughter of Harmon Edward and Erma (Parks) Bliss, she was born Jan. 13, 1929 near Newkirk. She grew up on a farm southwest of Newkirk and attended Newkirk schools, graduating with the class of 1946. Following high school she attended Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University. In 1993 she graduated from Northern Oklahoma College with a degree in Arts and Sciences. In 1948 she and Donald Horinek married in Newkirk following his return from the Pacific where he served in WWII. They made their home on a farm near Newkirk. In 1950 they bought a home in Blackwell where she had lived since. She worked at various businesses in Newkirk and Blackwell including the Kay County Court House, the Journal Tribune, the Red Cross, the local Ford Dealership and Bickford and Bellah CPA. She retired in 1987. On Aug. 1 of that same year she married Ivan Grell in Blackwell and they have made their home in the Blackwell and Braman areas since their marriage. Alcina was extremely talented and enjoyed baking, sewing, painting, arts and crafts and making memorable treasures for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her family, and her greatest joy was spending time with them. As a youth Alcina was very active in the 4-H Club and in high school in various extracurricular activities such as the Feline Club. Throughout her adult life she belonged to various home extensions clubs and was a member of the Variety Fun Club. Alcina was a member of the Blackwell First United Methodist Church and served for many years as superintendent of the Agricultural Division of the Kay County Fair and was an active participant in fair competition. Above all, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Ivan; four children, Bruce Horinek of Ponca City, Dona Kisabeth and Jeff Jamieson, both of Stillwater, and Cindy Davis of Vancouver, WA; two stepchildren, Candace Kahle of Oklahoma City and Mark Grell of Braman; two brothers, Donald Bliss of Palmyra, PA and William L. Bliss of Peckham; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Alice Horinek, her parents and two brothers, Francis Bliss and Ernest Bliss. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Nov. 24, in the Newkirk First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Hollifield officiating. Burial followed in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl funeral Service. Grandsons and nephews of Mrs. Grell served as casketbearers. A memorial fund to be designated at a later time has been established in Mrs. Grell's memory. Contributions may be made through the Bank of Oklahoma in either Newkirk or Ponca City. ---
