All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Tucson Citizen, Tucson AZ Ruth Cate Hill peacefully passed away in her home on October 2, 2005 with her loving children at her side. She was born in 1912 in Duncan, Oklahoma to John Blake Cate and Francis Burgett Cate. She was the "precious" baby sister of Elsie, Irene, Edna, Mabel, Irby and Bill. She moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma and following graduation from high school in 1929, became secretary to Raymond Zimmerman at Continental Oil. Mr. Zimmerman accepted a position with the Roosevelt administration in Washington, DC and offered Ruth employment there. She arrived in Washington in 1934 and went to work for the Home Owners Loan Corporation. She met John Lyman Hill, a law student at George Washington, on a blind date at a football game in 1937. They were married shortly after his graduation in 1938. John went to work for the Department of State and they built their first home in Alexandria, Virginia in 1941. During World War II Ruth worked in the Petroleum administration of the Department of War and John served the Navy in the Pacific. The greatest joy in life was their children, Susan and David, who were born in 1946 and 1950. In the early 50's John accepted a position with the Foreign Service. Diplomatic posts included Toronto, Canada and Pretoria, South Africa. Ruth's smile and hospitality served dignitaries and everyday people alike. The family retired to Tucson in 1963. Ruth was an active member of Catalina Methodist Church, organizing and managing the Shepherd program there for over 15 years. She was deeply involved in the foreign student program at the University of Arizona, assisting many foreign students and their families with their adjustments to American life. Friends in her neighborhood sewing club and book club were dear to her. She also enjoyed many cultural activities and basketball games at the university. After John died in 1993 she was diagnosed with severe heart disease. Charles Lui, MD and Jack Copeland, MD believed they could help this woman of strength and determination. Their faith in her and the support of the internal medicine department, the cardiac rehab team and the parking attendants at UMC helped us enjoy 11 more years with her. She was very appreciative of the love and help her caregivers Charlotte, Lorraine and Sister Angelica provided during her last months which allowed her to stay in her home. The family is grateful to the Casa De Luz hospice for the gentle assistance it provided in her last days. Ruth's warmth and faith touched the hearts of all who met her. Her generosity of spirit and devotion to friends followed her throughout life. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by Susan (Rex), Albert and David Clement, and Jason Rohwer, and 4 grandchildren, David (Diana), Bradley, Elizabeth and Sarah Hill. Please join us in a memorial honoring Ruth's life at Catalina Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, 10:30 AM Friday October 7, 2005. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catalina Methodist Church, the Sarver Heart Center or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Kay County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/kay/kay.html
