"Ed" Horinek, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS. He was born Feb. 27, 1921 at Newkirk, OK, to Anton and Frances Vrbas Horinek. Horinek was a resident of Page City, KS, having moved there from Winona, KS in 1961. He was a retired farmer and mechanic, and operated an auto mechanic shop in Winona and Page City. Ed was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oakley, KS and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, KS. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5366, Sharon Springs, KS, a lifetime member of the Oakley VFW, a member of the American Legion Post 0363 of Colby, and a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Association. He was a W.W.II army veteran. Horinek married Florence M. Kantor on Aug. 12, 1948 at Atwood, KS. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Gary Horinek and his wife, Mary, of Hoxie, KS, and Tony Horinek and wife, Anita, of Brewster, KS; three daughters, Robbi Kraus and husband, Bob, of Wray, CO, Shelley Brock and husband, Bob, of Monument, KS, and Nancy Horning and husband, Stan, Gaylord, KS; one brother, Elmer Horinek of Newkirk; one sister, Trudy Frick, Ponca City; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom Horinek, Bernard Horinek, and Richard Horinek; five sisters, Anna Vap, Liz Vap, Rose Tubbs, Alice Standbaugh, Mary Schwemim; and one grandson, Jeffrey Kraus. The funeral was held on Jan. 12, 2002, at the Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home in Oakley with Fr. Galen Long and Fr. Roger K. Meitl officiating. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Colby with military graveside rites by the Oakley VFW and American Legion. Arrangements were by Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home.
