He was 83 years of age. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 at Oak Grove Baptist Church at Kaw City with the Rev. Tom Short, pastor, officiating, assisted by Gary Wilburn, associate pastor. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home. Herb was born at Calloway, NE, to Charles V. and Belle Griffin on March 1, 1919, and was raised in the Shidler and Washunga area. He married Esther Louise Goodson on Dec. 1, 1946 at Arkansas City. He worked at the Midwest Creamery and the Dairyland Creamery prior to beginning employment at Continental Oil Company in 1950 where he worked in the Lube Department and Motor Pool. He retired from Continental in 1981, after 31 years of service. Herb enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and being with family and spending winters as a "Winter Texan" at Mission, TX. He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and also liked going to Brother Mike's Gospel Jubilee. He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Ponca City; one daughter, Carolyn Sue "Susie" Pettit, and her husband, Ernie; one son, Larry Eugene Griffin, and his wife, Linda, all of Ponca City; three grandsons, Larry Griffin, Marty Pettit, and Justin Williams; one great-granddaughter, Haley Williams, his mother-in-law, Ruby Goodson of Arkansas City, and a large family of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wanda Lou Griffin, a son, Steven Griffin, a granddaughter, Laci Dawn Hill, his parents, one sister, Velma Spencer, and four brothers, Ralph Griffin, Melvin Griffin, Charles Griffin, and Willie Griffin. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Larry Griffin, Marty Pettit, Justin Williams and also Kenny Andrews, Ronnie Hunt and Rowdy Andrews. Honorary casket bearers will be Fred Ashworth, Dinty Hunt, Frank Walter, Owen Rozell, Howard Murray, Zack Martin and Hubert Evans. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Building Fund at Oak Baptist Church, P.O.
