(Wheatley) Cobb Ietta M. Cobb, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2002, at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center. She was 87. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Grace Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Upshaw, associate minister of Longwood Baptist Church, presiding. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery. Ietta M. Wheatley was born April 6, 1915, in East St. Louis, Ill., the daughter of Homer S. Wheatley and Eva Ensor Wheatley. She received her public education in the Bristow schools, graduating from Bristow High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Willie L. "Bill" Cobb on Sept. 14, 1934, in Bristow, where the couple established their first home. The couple moved to Ponca City in 1942. The couple had been married 53 years prior to Mr. Cobb's death on Sept. 28, 1987. In earlier years, Mrs. Cobb was employed as a sales clerk with the local J.C. Penney's store and was a very active leader with the local Camp Fire girls. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Porcelain Artist Association of Ponca City, where she had served as teacher and president and was currently serving as parliamentarian. In addition to her porcelain work, she also enjoyed fishing, gardening and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Adelia Farris and husband Bill of Tulsa and Melinda Goddard and husband Collyn of Oklahoma City; one son, Richard Cobb and wife Lynne of Tulsa; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and special friends, Nadean and David Thomas of Ponca City. Her parents, husband and one brother, Homer E. Wheatley, preceded her in death. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Ted Thomas, David Farris, Kevin Farris, Mark Farris, Bob Farris and Steve Elrod. Honorary casket bearers will be Scott Jones and Aric Justice. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 or to the memorial fund of choice.
