All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** JACOBUS -- David William, Jr., was born on February 12, 1935, in Ponca City, Jacobus graduated from Ponca City High School in 1952, before earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa. For over 40 years, Bill enjoyed an active professional career in Tulsa as a Practicing Attorney. During his many years of membership in the Tulsa County Bar Association, he served in some capacity on its board for 14 years, including one term as President. As President, he led the effort to renovate the present Tulsa County Bar facility, and was honored with the outstanding Senior Lawyer award in 1991. Bill also served on the Board of Governors of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1992-1993. Jacobus was responsible for other accomplishments that remain integral parts of the Tulsa County Bar. He set up the Community Outreach committee, one of the most active of the Bar. He initiated a joint pro bono program with Legal Services of Tulsa, and oversaw the creation of a solo/small firm practice section. Bill also established the Neil E. Bogan Professionalism Award, still presented both by the Tulsa and Oklahoma Bar Associations. Under Bill's direction, publication of the Tulsa Lawyer changed from a quarterly to its current monthly basis. Bill was last honored by the Bar with a special Lifetime Achievement Award, the first ever presented, in 1994. Jacobus will be remembered not only for his professional career, but also for inspiring in others a love for the law. Above all, he relished his role as mentor to those interested in the practice of law and a life of the mind. A teacher by nature, he was an especially dedicated father. Bill is survived by: his mother, Louise; his sister, Mary; brothers, Charles and Patrick; son, David; and daughter, Catherine. He died peacefully among family in Fort Worth, TX, on Sunday morning, January 28, 2007. A Funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, February 1, at Church of the Madalene, 3188 East 22nd St. South, Tulsa, OK. He will be buried at Calvary Cemetery.
