Murrison Dr. Jay G. Murrison, longtime Ponca City resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center. He was 78. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kent Dorsey, First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home. Jay was born on July 25, 1924, in Tonkawa, the son of Andrew and Golda Wood Murrison. As a young boy, he and his family moved to Waynoka and then to Cherokee, where he obtained most of his early education, graduating from Cherokee High School in 1942. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his Navy service he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1950 from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. On April 6, 1952, he and Lorraine Bostrom were united in marriage at the First Methodist Church in Topeka, Kan., and established their home in Ponca City. Dr. Murrison opened his optometric practice in Ponca City in 1950, and retired in 1987. He enjoyed photography, fishing, and loved to play golf. Jay was a long time member of the First Christian Church. He was a member of the Ponca City Country Club and a 50-year member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife Lorraine, of the home; two daughters, Kim Hackler and her husband Ron of Broken Arrow, and Julie Clark and her husband Bill of Mesquite, Texas; four grandchildren, Kelle Hackler of Conway, Ark., Andrew Hackler of Norman, Steven Clark and Scott Clark, both of Mesquite, Texas; cousins, Jim Querry and his wife Lorraine of Tonkawa and Jack Querry and his wife Shirley of Oklahoma City, in addition to numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
