He was 79. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Weston of First Christian Church in Fairfax, officiating. Burial will follow at Burbank Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Joe E. Barnard, Gary Moore, Terry Moore, Gary Weyl, Markie Freeman and Jim Martin. Honorary casket bearers will be George Wayman, Harold Pool, Don Sherrill, Jim Lockett and Harold Gamble. James Merle Barnard was born March 23, 1923, near Burbank, the son of Dwight Edward and Ola Ruth Moore Barnard. He graduated from Burbank High School in 1941. He then married Kathryn Jean Stingley May 2, 1941, in Pawhuska. They established their home in Burbank, living and farming on the family land for over 60 years. Jim was proud of being a part of the 1940 State Basketball Championship Team, and being an All-State player. He had been a calf and steer roper for many years. He had served on the Burbank school board and was currently a county committee member of the Farm Services Agency. He was also a member of the Grayhorse Masonic Lodge 124 in Fairfax. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of the home; son, Dwight Virgil Barnard of Burbank, son, James Steven Barnard and his wife Donna, also of Burbank, and his daughter, LuAnn Christian and husband Dwight of rural Pawhuska. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought a twinkle to Jim's eye and a smile to his face. His grandchildren are Greg Barnard and wife Lisa of Norman, Stephani Hill and Mark of Stillwater, Shannon Norman of Ponca City, Aimee Godfrey and husband Junior of rural Burbank, Jim Christian of Noble, Stace Barnard and wife Angela of Marshall, Texas, Zack Christian and wife Sheila, of Ochelata, Sarah Oswalt, of Marshall, Texas, Kay Ghram and husband Kyle of Ponca City, Rebecca Barnard of Burbank, and Jay Barnard of Burbank. The great-grandchildren are Bryce and Blake Barnard, Maddison and Micah Hill, Landon, Trevor, Connor, and Evan Norman, Hannah Godfrey, Deklyn Christian, Trey and Sadi Oswalt, Joshua and Kate Ghram. Jim is also survived by one sister, Faye Hampton of Kirtland, N.M., and many other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Freda Nolan; and two brothers, Fred Barnard and Joe Edward Barnard. Even though Jim did not need their services, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ponca City, 1904 N.
