All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Johnston, Claudine Peddicord Claudine Peddicord Johnston died after a short illness on October 11, 2003 at the age of 74. She was born on May 2, 1929 to Claude and Mattie Peddicord in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She graduated from Blackwell High School in 1947. She attended Stephens College, and then the University of Oklahoma, where she was initiated into Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After college, she returned to Blackwell and worked in her parents' jewelry store, Peddicord's Jewelry. She married Floyd Johnston in 1955 and they resided in Blackwell where Floyd was a partner in the law firm of Brown and Johnston. The couple had two children, Mark and Ginny. After Floyd's sudden death in 1963, Claudine and her mother opened a children's store, Guys and Dolls, in Blackwell. A few years' later, they opened the Pollyanna ready-to- wear shop, also in Blackwell. Claudine was a successful business leader. She was active in the Chamber of Commerce and served a term as President of the Blackwell Business & Professional Women's Club. She was a devoted member of the Blackwell First Baptist Church and the Kay County Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae Club. In 1987, Claudine closed her store and moved to Oklahoma City to be near her family. Her most recent employment was as the resident manager of the Westminister Manor, where she treasured her friendships with the staff and residents of the Manor. Claudine was a devoted member of the Quail Springs Baptist Church and loved her friends in the Discovery Sunday School Class. She was active in the Oklahoma City Alpha Chi Alumnae Group and served a two-year term as president. Claudine is proceeded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Juli Johnston, and her daughter, and son-inlaw Ginny and Tom Goresen, all of Oklahoma City. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Ted and Bill Johnston and Thomas and Patricia Goresen, who affectionately called her 'No No.' She is also survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Johnston of Cushing, Oklahoma and her brother W.C. Peddicord of Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13th at 10am at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. A grave side service will be held in Blackwell, Oklahoma at 2:30p.m. The family is appreciative of the support and excellent medical care Claudine received from Dr. Brian Geister and his staff. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in honor of Claudine Johnston to Quail Springs Baptist Church or the Westminister Manor.
