All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** September 21, 2000 Cecil Teet Keen Cecil Teet Keen, longtime Ponca City area resident, died late Saturday, September 9, 2000 at his home. He was 93. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at Grace Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Stanton, pastor, Faith Tabernacle, officiating. Entombment followed in the Garden of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Cecil Keen was born March 25, 1907 on a farm southeast of Kildare the son of William Charles "W.M." Keen and Oris Louise (Hastings) Keen. He was known as "Teet" by friends and neighbors in Kay County all of his life. He attended Kildare School until 1914 when the family moved to a farm northeast of Kildare. He attended Fairview Rural School and then went to work in the oil fields of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas for several years. In 1925 Keen was married to Ella Backhaus at Newkirk. Their first home was established at Ponca City and the family also lived on various rented farms in Kildare Township. They moved to a farm northeast of Kildare in 1935 and Keen lived there for nearly 40 years. He was employed at the Continental Oil Refinery from 1925 until 1943 as a crane operator and later in the motor pool, in addition to his farming interests. On January 28, 1959 Cecil and Mildred (Shaw) Beller were married at Marland, OK and they continued to make their home on the farm. They retired in 1973 and moved to Ponca City. Keen's wife preceded him in death on March 7, 1998. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Marjory) Robinson and one son, Thomas J. Keen, both of Newkirk; one stepson, Jack Beller, of Costa Mesa, CA; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Martin; three sons, Virgil Lee Keen, Donald Keen and an infant son; a stepson, Hal Beller; three grandsons; five sisters, Hazel, Mary, Leona, Velma and Lavera; and four brothers, Dilver, Wilber, Loris and Orville.
