Keys, 101, longtime Muskogee resident, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on May 23, 1905, in Wichita, Kansas and moved with her family at an early age to Ponca City. Mary was raised in Ponca City where she graduated from high school. She moved to Muskogee in the mid 1920's and attended Draughon's Business School. Mary was married to Jim Keys in 1938. He preceded her in death in a drowning accident in 1941. Mrs. Keys was a business minded and community-oriented individual. She began a career with Bell Telephone Company in the mid 1920's and worked over forty- five years with Bell Telephone. She retired as secretary to the District Manager. Her long service to the company was rewarded with a gold charm bearing the Bell Telephone symbol and three diamonds. In the community she was very active with the Muskogee Friends of the Library, Sorosis Book Review Club, Garden Club and Muskogee General Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Her greatest involvement was with the Muskogee Pilot Club of which she was a member for over 50 years. She held every office in the local club and served as district secretary as a member of the District Administrative Council. Mrs. Keys was also a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mrs. Keys was preceded in death by: her mother, Adeline Griebel and her husband, Jim Keys. She is survived by her cousins, Carolyn Cross of Ridgecrest, California, Father Michael Cross of Felton, California, Sandra Bergmann and her husband, Richard of New Canaan, Connecticut, Suzanne Holliman of Dallas, Texas, Steve Kauble and his wife, Alice and their two children, Stephen Kauble and Sarah Kauble all of Tulsa. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 16, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Robert Dye celebrating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
