Lax Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Wendell Taylor, chaplain of Veterans Administration Medical Center, officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum with military honors rendered by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. Mr. Lax was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Grainville, Okla., to Henry Raymond and Bertha Esther Mead Lax. An Army veteran of World War II, he served under General George "blood and guts" Patton. He participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the forces that engaged in the occupation of Germany. Not only did he serve as an infantryman, but also as a halftrack driver and mechanic. Upon being discharged from the Army in November 1945, he moved to Amarillo. On Dec. 22, 1946, he married Geneva Overton and they had resided in Amarillo since that time. Until being disabled, he was a welder at American Trailer and Equipment. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tommie Gay Lax, in 1968. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Shirley J. Clemishire, Kathy L. Lax, Lynette Boswell and Renea Craig, all of Amarillo; a brother, Loren "Jack" Lax of Clarksville, Ark.; three sisters, Lola Bell Weiss of Paris, Elva Hendricks of Lincoln, Neb., and Sue Chisum of Vega; two grandsons, Terry Allen Montgomery and Cody Roark; and four granddaughters, Lisa Termain, Brandy Termain, Jessica Termain and Amber Craig.
