A native of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Maxine was born July 15, 1925 to proud parents D.W. and Cecil M. Leehan, who preceded her in death. She spent her childhood years in Ponca City, where she was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. In 1945, during the height of World War II, Maxine moved to Tulsa, to join the Cadet Nurse Corps program at the St. John School of Nursing. After graduation 'Mackie", as she was fondly known to family and friends, joined the nursing staff at St. John Hospital where she spent her entire career. She was involved in the establishment and initial staffing of St. John's Intensive Care, Intensive Cardiac Care, and Pediatric Intensive Care Units, and retired as Director of Nursing Services in 1994. Although she was the consummate professional woman, Maxine's greatest passion was clearly her extended family, whose long branches reach from Ireland to Mexico. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Tulsa, until she moved to Oklahoma City in 2004, when she joined Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. Maxine was a generous, gracious and graceful lady who had a rare and special appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
