Leven Frank [Francis Paul Nicholas] Leven, longtime Newkirk area farmer; died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 31, 1993, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Ponca City. He was 85. A prayer service has been scheduled for 7: 30 p.m., Thursday, in the Miller- Stahl Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Leven and Rev. Lowell Stieferman officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, in St. Francis Catholic Church in Newkirk. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Leven was born April 7, 1908, at Ponca City, the son of John Joseph and Gertrude (Conrady) Leven. He I grew up near Newkirk and attended St. Francis Catholic. Elementary School and graduated from St. Francis Catholic High Schools. On Jan. 7, 1930, he was married to Helen Sheik in Newkirk and the couple made their home on a farm in the Newkirk area. On Nov. 29,1943, Leven was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Enlisted Reserve Corps, training aircraft mechanics at the Darr School in Ponca City. He was discharged April 18, 1944, and returned to farming. Leven also did contracting for homes and building in the area for many years. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church; held third and fourth degrees in the Knights of Columbus, and served for many years on the Federal Land Bank Board. Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; one son, Dee Leven of Newkirk; one brother, Tony Leven of Newkirk; one sister Maria Gray of Ponca City; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Francis Haney; his parents; three brothers, Otto Leven, Joe Leven and Bishop Stephen A. Leven; two sisters, Rosa Elizabeth and Katie Larchy; and a grandson.
