All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Otto John Leven NEWKIRK - Otto John Leven, prominent Newkirk farmer, died Sunday morning [Dec. 12, 1982] in Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 60. Born June 28, 1922, at Newkirk, he was the son of Anton and Mary Leven. He received his early schooling here and graduated from Newkirk High School in 1940. While in school he received the American Farmer Degree in Future Farmers of America, and after finishing high school began farming in the Newkirk area. He married Ramona Brandon on April 2, 1945, and in 1964 was awarded the WKY Farmer-Rancher of the Year Award. Leven was an honorary member of Block and Bridle and FFA. He also belonged to the Newkirk Chamber of Commerce, had received the third and fourth degrees in Knights of Columbus, was a member of Oklahoma Sheep and Wool Growers, past chainman of ASCS of Ark-Kay District, past director of American Hampshire Sheep Association, past chainman of Black and White Sheep Sale, and a member of Kay County Youth Center Development Committee and Kay County Fair Board. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton A. Leven of Newkirk; his wife, Ramona of the home; two sons, Harold Leven of Newkirk and Otto John Leven II of the home; four daughters, Rosaleah Hodgson of Emporia, Kan, Toni Reynolds of Ponca City, Charlotte Leven of Tulsa, and Ada Lou Pfeiffer of Orlando, Okla.; two brothers, the Rev. Marvin Leven of Edmond, and Andrew A. Leven of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Meutzel of Sioux Falls, S.D., and four grandchildren. His brother, Harold Leven, and a daughter, Lana, preceded him in death. Rosary will be said Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock in the Stahl Funeral Chapel, with funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis Catholic Church. Bishop Stephen· A. Leven, the Rev. Marvin Leven, and the Rev. Albert Stephan will be celebrants. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery under direction of Stahl Funeral Service. A memorial scholarship fund has been established in Leven's memory, and contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank. DEC 13, 1982 Ponca City News
