Mathes 83, died Tues., Jan.6,1945, at the Ponca City Hospital where he was admitted for care on Nov. 4. Before moving to Newkirk, Mathes lived in Ponca City for several years, going to that community from Alva. Mathes was a retired farmer and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness church. He was born Dec. 12, 1861 in Indiana. Survivors are six children. George Washington Mathes,Altna,Okla, John W. Mathes, Ponca City, Mrs.L.S.Salyer, Porterville, Calif.,Mrs. Carl Newman, Burbank, Okla, Marion David Mathes and Joe Mathes both of Riverside, Calif. a step-daughter, Mrs.Dave Hand, Sapulpa and a sister, Mrs. Charles Warn- staff, Letts, Iowa. Mrs. Mathes preceeded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2p.m.Friday at the Pentecostal Holiness church of Ponca City with the Rev. Alfred Spell officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F.
