He was 70. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Nel Holmes, minister of Wellington (Kan.) United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Merl Ramey Jr. was born July 29, 1925 on the Midgley Ranch east of Newkirk, the son of Merl and Fern (Elliott) Ramey Sr. He attended Sweetwater Grade School and after graduation from Newkirk High School in 1943, was employed at the Midgley Ranch. On Feb. 1, 1947, he was married to Hazel Marie Wathor at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ponca City. The couple made their home on the Midgley Ranch for many years. After spending 50 years of his life on the ranch, Ramey and his wife moved to their present home southeast of Newkirk. Ramey was a member of the Newkirk Co-op. He enjoyed fishing, working with cattle, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of the home; two sons, Jerry of Newkirk, and Steven of Ponca City; one daughter, Sharon LeValley of Wellington; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Ramey's name to the Opportunity Center of Ponca City, c/o Eastman National Bank, P.O.
