She was 78. The daughter of John Harvey and Emma (Massey) Mefford, she was born June 17, 1920 at Blackwell. She grew up on a farm northwest of Newkirk and attended Plain View Rural School. When she was eight years of age the family moved to a farm south of Newkirk. In 1937 she and Leroy Jordan were married at Arkansas City where they made their home. She owned and operated the 166 Grill in Arkansas City for several years. In March 1961 she and John Allen Carter were married in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Arkansas City until 1975 when they moved to Arkansas. In 1995 they moved to Newkirk where they have since resided. She was a member of the Assembly of God in Newkirk. Her survivors include her husband Allen of the Newkirk home; one son, Dennis Jordan of Newkirk; a step son, Johnny Carter of Arkansas City; two step daughters, Sue Hocke of Casfield, Texas and Donna Tousley of Arkansas City; one brother, George Mefford of Blackwell; one sister, Mary Ann Wilson of Newkirk; six grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 18 step great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Jordan; a grandson, Randy Jordan; her parents; two brothers, Lloyd Mefford and John Francis "Frank" Mefford; and four sisters, Iva Belle Mefford, Lou France, Thelma Lane and Sylvia Coats. Funeral services were held at 10 am Friday, June 18 in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pernina Weatherman, minister of the Newkirk Assembly of God officiating. Burial followed in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service.
