Raymond D. Smith Raymond D. Smith, longtime Ponca City resident, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Westminster Village Nursing Home. He was 78 years of age. A service in his honor will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22 at the Grand Avenue Church of Christ with Mr. Larry Keirn and Mr. Paul Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Raymond was born on March 21, 1927, in Stillwater to Melvin D. and Cleona V. Smith. He was raised in the Stillwater area. Raymond married Frances L. Stowe on Jan. 27, 1945, in Drumright. The couple moved to Ponca City in 1952. She preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2001. Raymond served the United States Army and worked for many years in construction and as a mill worker. He enjoyed fishing with his son, working in his yard, gardening, and was a member of Grand Avenue Church of Christ. Raymond married Viola Patton Gildhouse on March 11, 2002, in Ponca City. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Viola of Ponca City; two daughters, Dorothy Fulks and her husband Charles of Ponca City and Jackie Zimmerschied and her husband Larry, also of Ponca City; one son, Richard D. Smith and his wife Tamara of Ponca City; grandchildren, Tobi Bricker and her husband Doug of Shawnee, Kim Taylor of Ponca City, Tammy McPherson of Stillwater, Cody Fulks and his wife Hillary of Ponca City, Larry Zimmerschied Jr. and his wife Tracy of Ponca City, Randy Zimmerschied and his wife Nancy of Ponca City, Jamie Warner and her husband Travis of Edmond, Jill Smith of Ponca City and Jennifer Smith of Ponca City; 9 step-children; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Delbert Smith of Stillwater. In addition to his wife, Frances, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Donald Ray Smith, Jesse J. Smith and Arthur A. Smith, and an infant son, Jerry Ray Smith. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Larry Zimmerschied Jr., Randy Zimmerschied, Cody Fulks, Travis Warner, Doug Bricker and Derek Smith. Honorary casket bearers will be George Sheets, Tommy Smith, Brian Holly, Bill Taylor and Raymond Caraway.
