A memorial service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Grand Avenue Church of Christ. Mr. Larry Keirm will preside. Interment will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lonoke County, Ark., under the direction of Trout Funeral Home Chapel. Barker was born in Rusk County, Wis., on Aug. 24, 1944, to Carl and Marion Barker. He grew up in Glen Flora, Wis., and graduated from Flambeau High School. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was regional sales manager for Farm Fresh Dairy for 13 years. He married Rebecca Hall on July 14, 1985, in Hot Springs, Ark. They moved to Ponca City in 1991. In 1997, Barker started USA Bottling Co., which he and two partners operated for five years. He and his wife moved to Edmond in 2001. Barker loved Oklahoma State University basketball, old clocks and, most of all, his family and friends. His strong faith was evident in his deeds. He had a unique quality of knowing what was truly important in life. He understood that family and friends, rather than material possessions, gave life meaning. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye as he answered the question, "How are you?" with the response, "Perfect in every way." That is precisely how his friends and family felt about him, considering themselves richer for having had the privilege of knowing him. Barker was a member of Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City and Live Covenant Church in Edmond. He was active in Southside Neighbors Association and the Iris Festival. Last May, he and his wife fulfilled a lifelong dream by driving through Alaska. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Randy Barker; a sister, Pat Igowski; and a brother Edgar Barker. Survivors include his wife; his children, P. LeAnne and Stuart Beltson of Reston, Va., Kerri and Jeff McLinn of Edmond, April and Rex Hayter of Cushing and Anthony Carney of Owasso; sisters and brothers Glen and Dorothy Barker, Ray and Sue Barker, Joan and Ray Laporte, Linda Barker, Allen Barker, John and Terri Barker, Alice Ann and Dan Anderson and Donnie and Barb Barker; and 11 grandchildren. The family will be at 2405 Mockingbird Monday and Tuesday. Cards may be sent to 2200 Rushing Springs Trail, Edmond, Okla., 73013. ************************************************************************ USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
