Elmore R.J. Elmore, 84, of Newkirk, died Monday morning, January 4, 1999 in the Ponca City Nursing Home. The son of Fred and Mary Madeline (Dice) Elmore, he was born September 6, 1914 in Randlett, Oklahoma. He grew up and received his education in Chickasha. He served with the United States Army during WWII, serving stateside. On August 12, 1941 he and Hazel Adeline Carr were married in Ponca City. They established their first home in Arkansas City moving later to Wichita and other locations around the country where his work with the railroad took them. He retired from the L&N Railroad in April 1979 in Louisville, Kentucky. They moved to Newkirk in July of 1991. He enjoyed being at home, working on cars, and going camping. He is survived by his wife Hazel and one daughter, Roberta Elmore, both of the home; three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. Graveside service was held at 2 pm Wednesday, January 6 in the Newkirk Cemetery with the Rev. John Tramel, minister of the Newkirk First Baptist Church, officiating.
