He was 68. A memorial graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Hunt, minister of Grace Community Church, officiating. Service arrangements and cremation are under the direction of McCafferty-Bolick Funeral Home of Tonkawa. Robert Ray Bittle was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Braman, the son of Dewey and Eva (Peters) Bittle. He grew up and received his education in Tonkawa. After high school he entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1947 until his honorable discharge in 1949. On Nov. 1, 1950, he was married to Mattie Lou Barker. A machinist by trade, Bittle had been employed by Kruner's and Conoco. During his career he traveled to the Middle East and Africa with the petroleum industry. Due to failing health he was forced to retire early and in 1990 moved to the Veterans Center in Talihina. Survivors include three daughters, Pam Marshall of Muskogee, Robin Walker of Tonkawa, and Michelle Ward of Coalgate; one sister, Roberta Fruits of Prairie Village, Kan.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Bittle's name to the Alzheimers Association of Oklahoma, c/o McCafferty-Bolick Funeral Home, 400 E.
