He was 69. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 16, 1996 in the Forsyth Funeral Home in Medicine Lodge, Kan. with the Rev. Mike Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Sun City, Kan. under direction of the Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, Kan. Robert James Sanders was born Jan. 7, 1927 in Hazelton, Kan., the son of William H. and Hazel A. DeMint Sanders. He grew up in Medicine Lodge, Kan. where he resided until moving to Ponca City in 1955. He lived here until 1979 when he moved to Sun City. He had been the sexton of The Sunnyside Cemetery and had served on the Sun City City Council. He and Virginia June Smith were married Sept. 26, 1954 in Medicine Lodge, Kan. and she preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Roberta Jane Campbell of Burbank and Constance Powell of Wichita, Kan.; a son, James Hotchkiss of Wichita; one stepson, Larry Tedrow of Ponca City and a stepdaughter, Mary Ham, also of Ponca City; three brothers, Tweed of Castro Valley, Calif., Leo and Ervin, both of Anthony, Kan.; two sisters, Ruby Darling of Clearwater, Kan. and Marie Richardson of Garden City, Kan.; also seven step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
