Inc. in Winfield, Kan., died July 12, 1996, at William Newton Memorial Hospital Winfield. He was 85. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Friends may call at the funeral home between noon and 8 p.m. on Monday. Dean Drennan was born March 13, 1911, at Wauneta, Kan., to William Thomas and Mae Ethel (West) Drennan. He was reared in the Cedar Vale and Hewins areas and received his early education in rural Chautauqua County schools. Following the death of his mother when he was 13, Dean moved to Winfield with his family in 1925. He attended Winfield High School. He and Helen "Virginia" Kenreich were married on May 19, 1934, in Winfield, where they resided throughout their 62 years of marriage. A Veteran of World War II, Mr. Drennan served with the U.S. Navy and SeaBees as a motor machinist mate at Guadalcanal and the South Pacific Theatre. Following military service, he returned to Winfield and in 1955, he began operation of D & D Farm Equipment Co. in Winfield. He served as owner and president over the John Deere dealership for over 40 years. A member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield for over 70 years, he was a life member of the American Legion Post 10. He served the Cowley County Fair Association for 50 years, and was a 45-year member of the Winfield Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his work, and traveling with his wife. Surviving are his wife, Virginia of the home; three sons, Bill, Jerry and Bob Drennan, all of Winfield; his sister, Eva I. Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl W. and E. West Drennan. Memorials have been established with the Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield and for the general scholarship fund at Southwestern College in Kansas.
