All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--Dalhart TX Marvin Sears DALHART - Marvin Sears, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Christian Church with Barry Walker, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Sears was born July 8, 1919, in Nardin, Okla., to Benjamin and Norma Austin Sears. His family moved to the Conlen Community where his father farmed. Marvin graduated from Dalhart High School in 1937 and went to work for Ford Motor Co. in Dalhart. Marvin began working for Rock Island Railroad before he joined the Army during World War II. Marvin served in the South Pacific Theater and received a Purple Heart when the ship he was on was torpedoed near the island of New Caledonia. After the war, Marvin returned to Dalhart and continued working for Rock Island for more than 40 years. He trained appaloosa horses and won the National Cutting Horse World Championship with his horse named Chief Leader. Marvin was a member of First Christian Church, XIT Rangers and Dalhart Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sarah; and a sister, Vona Jean Sears. Survivors include his special friend, Nancy Woods; six stepsons; and numerous first and second cousins.
