Shinn, longtime Newkirk resident, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2005, in Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center in Ponca City. She was 92. A prayer service has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Miller- Stahl Funeral Service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Newkirk with the Rev. Richard Beckman and Mrs. Shinn's nephew, the Rev. Marvin Leven, as celebrants. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home Monday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Rosemary Shinn was born Nov. 5, 1913, on the family farm northwest of Newkirk, the daughter and youngest child of John and Anna Kegler Sheik. She attended Pleasant Valley rural school and St. Francis Catholic schools. Upon completion of her education, she remained on the farm to care for her mother until her mother's death in July 1940. On July 29, 1940, she and Lloyd Ralph "Ted" Shinn were married in Newkirk. They established their first home on the farm. The Shinns moved into town in 1948 when Mr. Shinn was elected Kay County Sheriff. Mr. Shinn died July 5, 1975. Rosemary has lived her entire life in the Newkirk community. A member of St. Francis Catholic Church, she was also a member of the Altar Society. Over the years she enjoyed spending time with her family, tending her vegetable and flower gardens and sewing. She is survived by one daughter, Leanna Adams of Ponca City and her special friend Elman Fuchs of Burbank; one son and his wife, Jack and Janice Shinn of Newkirk; two grandchildren, Justin Shinn of Newkirk and Julie Shinn and her companion Kaja Shinn of San Antonio; three great-grandsons, Tyler Shinn, a student at OSU, Rosin and Pake Shinn, both of Newkirk; two great granddaughters, Keaghan and Kiley Shinn of San Antonio; and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband Ted, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Pete, Vincent and Raymond Sheik; and four sisters, Louise Leven, Teresa Svitak, Helen Leven and Anna Voegele. A memorial fund has been established with the St. Francis Alter Society. Contribution may be made in Mrs. Shinn's memory through Eastman National Bank, P.O. Box 468, Newkirk, Okla. 74647.
