He was 65. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. J. Craig Ortwein, minister of Newkirk Christ Church, officiating. Burial is to follow in Grandview Cemetery, Kaw City, under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service. Teddy Leroy "Ted" Frick was born Dec. 7, 1930, the son of Charlie Leroy and Leona Gladys (Wright) Kelly in Mervine. At age one, his father died and he was raised by his step-father and took his name. He grew up and received his education in the Kaw City area, except for short periods of time, when the family lived in Caldwell, Kan., and Atoka. After leaving school he worked on area farms and later worked as a mechanic for the Chevrolet Garage and ran the projection booth for the movie theater in Kaw City. He was married to Etha Rose Martin in 1952 in Newkirk and the couple established their home in Ponca City. Frick was employed by Al Neville in his lumber yard and on his farms. He later was employed for a short time by Wayne Bristow in his body shop. Frick then moved back to Newkirk where he was employed as a mechanic for the Chevrolet dealership, and remained there through several owners. In 1961 he opened his own business, Ted's Auto Repair. On May 25, 1964, he was married to Gracie Harper Byrd in Bartlesville and the couple established their home in Newkirk. Frick continued to operate his business until ill health forced his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, mostly for his own enjoyment, but on occasion filled-in at dances. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Gracie, of the home; one son, David Wayne Byrd of Newkirk; two daughters, Jerhonda Kay Wanko of Newkirk and Roselie L. Redford of Augusta, Kan.; his stepparents, Jim and Lillian Frick Creason of Newkirk; one sister, June Martin of Ponca City; a cousin with whom he was raised, J.C. McCune of Newkirk; seven grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his natural parents; a step-father; and one sister, Wanda Joan Frick. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Kirk Brown, Christopher Redford, Bobby Redford, Zack Byrd, Mike Peevy and Lance Owen.
