All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Braman Cemetery--Braman OK Vaughn, Vanda Leah Vanda Leah Vaughn, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, March 23, 2003, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 99 years. Vanda Leah Vaughn was born on February 26, 1904, East of Ponca City, Oklahoma, in the Longview Community, to Holsie and Leona (Poteet) Shurtz. She grew up in Dilworth, Oklahoma, and attended Sunnyside School. Following her education, she worked in home health care. She married Melvin 'Bud' Vaughn, on August 20, 1924, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Dilworth, where she served her family as a homemaker. She also assisted her husband with his farming operation. Her husband preceded her in death on July 14, 1965, and she remained living on the farm. In 1992, she moved to Blackwell to make her home. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Braman. She also held membership in the Vernon HOA Club and was a charter member of the Braman Saddle Club. She served as an election board employee for fifty-one years. She enjoyed Tuesday night dances with the Senior Citizens at the American Legion. Survivors sons, James E. Vaughn, Okla. City, OK, Olen Vaughn and his wife, Bertha, Ponca City, OK; sisters, Lela Hayden, Arkansas City, KS, Margaret Casement, Arkansas City, KS; grandchildren, Lynn Vaughn, Duncan, OK, Patty Purvis, El Reno, OK, Sharon Brumley, Fairfax, OK, Byron Staples, Fairfax, OK, Clinton Staples, Fairfax, OK; great grandchildren, Jerrod and Whitney Vaughn, Duncan, OK, Steven Purvis, Yukon, OK, Colby Brumley, Ponca City, OK, J.W. Brumley, Edmond, OK, Kayla Brumley, Fairfax, OK, Krista Staples, Fairfax, OK, Renee and Russell Staples, Fairfax, OK; great great grandchildren, Ashtyn and Rylan Purvis, Yukon, OK, Reagan Brumley, Ponca City, OK; special nephew, Larry Stuard, Phoenix, AZ. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, LaVerna Staples; a son, Ernest Vaughn; three brothers, Aubrey, Lyle and Edwin Shurtz; three sisters, Arletha Stewart, Caddis Metz and Betty Comfort; and a granddaughter, Karen Staples.
