He was 82. The son of Harvey James and Emily McPherson Pappan Ramey, he was born Nov. 9, 1920 in Arkansas City, KS. He grew up on a farm east of Newkirk in the Sweetwater Community and attended Sweetwater School and Newkirk High School. After finishing his education he worked as a farm hand for his father and for Mr. Cooley. On July 20, 1942 he entered the U.S. Air Force and received training as a gunner. On Jan. 15, 1944 Warren and Mary Frances Gilmore were married in Wichita Falls, TX while Mr. Ramey was stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base. He received his honorable discharge in Jan. 1946. In April of 1946, they moved to Ponca City and he began his employment with Continental Oil Company. He worked in the compound and packing department for the 35 years he was with the company. He retired Jan. 31, 1981. A member of the Kaw Indian Tribe, he was a member of Woodlands Christian Church, the American Legion Huff Minor Post 14, and the International Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; one son and his wife, Monte D. and Jamie Ramey of Houston; a daughter and her husband, Paula R. and Dale Spomer of Edmond; one sister, Charlotte Engelking of Ponca City; and four grandchildren, Devin Hunter and J.D. Ramey of Houston and Derek and Stacy Spomer of Edmond. He was preceded in death by his parents. His funeral was held Nov. 20 in Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert Ferris, minister of the Newkirk First Christian Church officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Ponca City under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service. Those serving as casket bearers Tom Cole, Jim Gilmore, Jerry Ramey, Leonard Glaviano, Vern Engle and Paul Backhaus. Honorary bearers were Addison Hazlett, Floyd Admire, Owen Rozell, Floyd Wendall Haney, Julius Hocker and Gary Kerchenbauer. A memorial fund has been established with Hospice of Ponca City.
