He was born July 18, 1915 in Ponca City, OK to Thomas Leonard and Pearl Armenta West. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Charaldene in January 1980 and his second wife, Bette in September 1998. Paul joined the Masonic Lodge in Frederick, OK in 1947. He was a charter member of Masonic Lodge #1381 in Pampa, TX and an active member of the Masonic Blue Lodge for over 50 years. Paul was active in the Boy Scouts for many years. He joined the scouts in Eldorado, AR at the age of 12 and became a First Class Scout before moving to Pampa, TX. In later years he served as a Councilman in Frederick and Altus, OK, also in Albuquerque, NM. Paul served 3 years in Battery B, 131st Field Artillery in the Texas National Guard. He was an active civic worker belonging to Lions International for over 30 years, serving as the president of the Lions Club in both Pampa, TX and Albuquerque, NM. Paul also served as president of the Bartlesville, OK Jaycees for a short time before entering military service in 1943. He served 18 months in the Tulsa Induction Station as a Psychologist's assistant before being transferred to the 61st General Depot on Saipan where he was Chief Clerk of the Statistical Section. Following his discharge in 1946 he was the Chairman of the Lincoln County Cancer Drive. The following year he served in the same capacity in Tillman County. While in Pampa, TX, Paul served on the Board of City development for 3 years and was General Chairman of the United Fund Drive for 1 year. In Oklahoma City he was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, and a Stephen Minister. He and his late wife, Bette, were long time members of the Revelers Club, the Mayfair Club, the Joi deVe club, the Sportsmans Country Club and Imperial Dance Club. He was also a long time member of the Oklahoma Variety Club, having joined in 1943 while living in Bartlesville. In 1934 Paul began a 49- year career in the movie theater business, starting as an usher at the LaNora Theater in Pampa, TX. Griffith Amusement Company, later known as Video Independent Theaters operated the theater. In later years he was General Manager of the company's operation in Albuquerque, NM. He was transferred to Oklahoma City in 1975 as a management executive. There he served as Director of Theater Concessions and as Director of Purchasing until his retirement in March 1983. He served 1 year as President of the New Mexico Theatre Association and 1 year as President of the Oklahoma Theatre Association. After Paul's retirement he was quite active in the Variety Club, working 3 years with the Dale Robertson Celebrity Golf Tournament, the last 2 years as Chairman of the Golf Steering Committee. Paul is survived by his children, Rick West, Cyndi Taylor, Sherry Britton and Dr. Cathleen Sheehan; grandchildren, Richard Paul West, Patty May West, Christa Richardson and Jason Britton; and his great grandchildren, Claire and Cate Richardson. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2003 in the Chapel Hill Garden Mausoleum Chapel with interment following in the cemetery.
