All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== Ellena Farris Gullett Grimes, age 86, widow of Mark E. Grimes, died on Saturday, January 5, 2002 in Borger Health Care Center, Borger, TX. Hutchinson Co., following a long illness of heart attack and stroke. Ellena was born in Moore, Okla. on December 11, 1917 and was the daughter of James (Jim) Gullett and Belle Forrest Sumpter Gullett. Ellena graduated from the High School of Pawhuska, Okla., and studied business and shorthand and married Mark Grimes on December 14 , 1939 at age 22. They were married 61 years until his death in August of 2000. He called her "Pinky" all the days of his life. Ellena Grimes worked at the Grimes Dairy around Pawhuska, Okla. for some time and remarked how glad she was to see the demise of glass milk bottles, as she had "washed her quota". She moved on to the Olson cattle ranch near Cedar Vale, Kansas with her husband and had her children there, working to help the owners with housework and chores. After World War II, the family moved to Borger, Texas, to be around some family and work in the Phillips Plains Plant. Other family names in Borger are: Sumpter, Turner and Grubbs and auxiliary families in Pampa: Thornberg; and in Amarillo: McKown. She was a long time resident of Borger, Texas and was active in caring for young children for working parents for many years and then worked in The Fabric Store on Main Street for many years, until its closing. Ellena Grimes was a early member of the Bunavista Baptist church and was a long time member of the Keeler Baptist Church of Borger, where she often taught Sunday School Classes. She was talented seamstress and made suits for her sons and husband and did sewing for friends and family, keeping her grandchildren in new Easter outfits for many years. Services will be in Keeler Baptist Church--------------------------? Rev. Paul Anderson, Pastor. Interment will be in the "Garden of Devotion" section of the Highland Park Cemetery on Cedar Street in, Borger, Texas, Hutchinson County. Minton - Chatwell Funeral Home will be caretaker of Mrs. Grimes. She is survived by her two sons, Melvin Eugene Grimes, of Yorba Linda, California and Harold Joe Grimes of Borger and Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and by one brother, Lloyd Gullett of Wynona, Okla. Siblings that have preceded her in death are: Harold Vane Gullett, Delva Gullett Ogan, and Carol James Gullett. Ellena has two daughters in law: Judy Hugg Grimes, and Annie Thornberg Brunson Grimes. She is survived by seven grandchildren and two step grand daughters, grandchildren including, Natalie Gayle Palmer of Anaheim Hills Ca.; Melanie Eileen Barden of Whittier, California; Stephanie Leah Lehner of Victorville, California; and Mark Eugene Grimes of Whittier, California, also Julie Renee Thomas, Lee Ann Grimes and Mr. and Mrs. James Grimes of Borger, Texas and step grand daughters: Cindy Cox of Ft. Worth, Christy Fanelli of Virginia Beach, Fla. and 25 great grandchildren.
