Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Abernathy Funeral Chapel in Crescent. Burial followed in Oakland-Knowles Cemetery, under direction of Abernathy Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 31,1928, in Crescent to Lynn and lnez Ward Watson. He married Norman Wilson Watson on Dec. 12,1952, in Ft. Smith, Ark. He graduated from Crescent High School and was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army. He was employed by Eason Oil Company in 1954 and retired in 1985. Survivors indude his wife, Norma of the home; one daughter, Linda Pitchford of Crescent; one son, Dale Watson of Crescent; one sister, Floris Weber of Dover; one brother, Larry Watson of Guthrie; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Clifford, Neal, Jon, Don and Jesse Watson and three sisters, Eva Berry, Betty Miller and Edna Newman. --- Larry G. Mauck: M200 Larry C. Mauck, 63, of Ames died Saturday, Sept. 28,2002, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Ames First Baptist Church, with Revs. L.D. Choate, Jim Thorpe and Jim Nance officiating. Burial followed in the Ames Cemetery. He was born Nov. 28, 1938, to Homer Husted and Emma Donna Stotts Mauck, on a farm west of Hennessey. He married Valenda Verdine Bingham on Aug. 1,1959. He graduated from Lacey High School. He was employed at George E. Failings, Oxy Petroleum and farmed. He was a founding member of Powder and String Sportsman Club and a member of Ames First Baptist Church. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, trap shooting and attending grand- children's activities. Survivors include his wife, Valenda of the home; one son, Garin Mauck and wife Deana of Hinton; two daughters, Susan Meloy and husband Russ of Hennessey; mother-in-law, Guida Bingham of Ames; one brother, Darrel Mauck and wife Sharon of Hennessey, and six grandchildren. --- Norma Joyce Wilson: W425 Norma Joyce Wilson, 74, of Hennessey died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church in Hennessey with Rev. Terry Bunch and Dr. Don Rogers officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Wetumka Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. She was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Weleetka to Carl Bryan and Lois Arvella Rivers Hammond. She married Wesley Maurice "Cotton" Wilson on Feb.15, 1946, in Russell, Kan. He preceded her in death. She was a 1945 graduate of Weleetka Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hennnessey and the Hennessey Senior Citizens Center. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, playing bridge and playing the piano. Survivors indude one daughter, Patrice Brown of Oklahoma City; one son, Dr. J. Michael Wilson and wife Glennis of Duncan; one brother, Ralph Hammond of Weleetka; three sisters, Frances Arnold and husband Frank of Rosehill, Kan., Peggy Oliver of Wichita, Kan., and Wilma Neal and husband Don of Arkansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He married Berniece Perkins on Aug. 16, 1961. She preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Devilleris on Nov. 22, 1995. He was employed at Griffin Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 10,1936,in Crescent to Max and Stella Chambers Yenzer. He married Geneva LaRue at Guthrie on July 22,1955. He was employed by Oneok, Inc., for 35 years, retiring in December 2001. He worked in Enid, Buffalo, Okeene, Kingfisher and Hennessey. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingfisher. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church officiated by Revs. Gene Moore and Terry Rauh. Burial followed in the Hennes- sey Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. He was born April 15, 1921, in Bristow to Virgil and Margie Risenhover Harms. He married Dovie Thompson on Jan. 10, 1946, in Konowa. He was a WWII veteran and a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Dovie of the home; one son, Gary Harms Sr. and wife Teresa of Dover; one brother, Clyde Harms of Duncan; one sister, Effie Barton of Byng; two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Hamil, 92, of Hennessey died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at the First Baptist Church with Revs. Bill Kious and Terry Bunch officiating. Burial followed in Hennessey Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. He was born Jan. 29,1910, west of Hennessey to James and Esther Fitzhugh Hamil. He married Dorothy Fields in 1931 in Wellington, Kan. They moved to a farm east of Hennessey. He attended Pleasant Valley School through the eighth grade. He then joined his father in farming. During WWII he lived in California and worked in a defense plant at Burbank. In 1946, he returned to Hennessey and purchased the farm his grandfather homesteaded in the 1889 land run. They moved into town in 1970, however, he continued to farm. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the '89ers and the Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee Hamil in 1997, three brothers, Earl, Clay and Woodrow Hamil, and one sister, Fanny Bell Hamil. --- Helen Irene Cerny: C650 Helen Irene Cerny, 89, of, Hennessey died Friday, Oct. 4,2002, at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Enid. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hennessey with Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Burial followed at 2:30 p.m. at White Cemetery in Hunter, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. She was born July 10, 1913, in Hunter to Joseph and Katrma Bubak Cerny. Following high school, she attended Enid Business College. She was employed by the U.S. Government in the foreign embassy service, where she worked in numerous foreign countries. She retired in 1977 and moved to Hennessey. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Altar Society. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Bonnie Cerny. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. --- Gary Vernon McNew: M250 Gary Vernon McNew, 62, of Harrah, formerly of Kingfisher, died Friday, Oct. 4,2002, at his home. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the ASA Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. He was born April 11, 1940, in Morris to Charles and Jessie Vernon McNew. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked for Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement. He was then employed by ASC as a defense con- tractor. He resided in the Harrah community for the past 23 years, moving from Kingfisher where he was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jean of the home; one daughter, Valerie Graves and husband Michael of Harrah; one son, Jamie McNew and wife Kim of Choctaw; one brother, Bob McNew and wife Ona of Bristow, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. --- Adeline A. Fuksa: F200 Adeline A. Fuksa, 81, of Hennessey died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the Hennessey Care Center. A wake service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. She was born Feb. 12, 1921, to Michael and Mary Stastony Linhart. She married Frank Fuksa on Feb. 12, 1947, in Bison. They lived north of Hennessey. He preceded her in death in 1957. She was employed at the Hennessey Care Center as a housekeeper for 10 years and was a cook at Hennessey Senior Citizens Center and Hennessey Country Club. She also cleaned houses in the community. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Altar Society. Survivors include one son, Daniel Fuksa and wife Jeanette of Hennessey; one daughter, Denice Fuksa of Oklahoma City; five sisters, Martha Fuksa of Bison, Lucille Houska and husband John of Bison, Ann Fuksa and husband Ernest of Hennessey, Margie Ponec and husband Bob of Seward, Neb., and Katherine Linhart of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Joe Linhart and wife Agnes of Enid and Anthony Linhart and wife Kay of Oklahoma City, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, and one sis- ter. --- Carlin M. Whittemore: W356 Carlin M. “Mick” Whittemore, 85, of Hennessey died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church in Hennessey with Rev. Liz Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Hennessey Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. He was born June 23, 1917, in Calvin to John M. and Minnie Whittemore. He graduated from Geary High School. He married Norma Jo Reiswig in Compton, Calif. After completing his military service, they made their home in Hennessey. He was employed at Long Bell Lumber Co. prior to WWII. He served with the 32nd Infantry “Red Arrow” Division in the South Pacific and was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed at the Hennessey Post Office where he served as post- master for 28 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and served one term as city treasurer. Survivors indude one daughter, Tamara Boehs; four sisters, all of Cali- fornia, and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Norma Jo, and two sons. --- Dean Calavan: C415 Dean Calavan, 78, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Omega, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Portland Avenue Baptist Church with Walter Mullican and J.P. Dane officiating. Burial followed in Kingfisher Cemetery. He was born June 14, 1924, in Omega to Spencer and Pearl Webb Calavan. He married Veta Moore on Nov. 7, 1945, in Kingfisher. He served in the Navy as a radar instructor during WWII. He was a cattle rancher and an insurance agent. He served as a deacon for 35 years at Portland Avenue Baptist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason, having recently received his 50-yearpin. He was past president of the Certified Life Underwriters Association. Survivors include his wife, Veta of the home; one son, Greg Calavan of Austin, Texas; three brothers, L.W. Calavan of Lewisville, Texas, Wayman Calavan of Shawnee and Roy Calavan of Warner, and four grandchildren. A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 7, in Cashion Cemetery. He was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Okarche to Fred and Susie Smith Kordis. He married Florence Mabel Christner on July 8, 1935. She preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 1992. He attended Cashion School. He retired from Gulf Stream and was a farmer. He was a member of the Cashion Odd Fellows for 65 years and a Mason for 56 years. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Kordis and wife Lois of Midwest City and Gene Kordis and wife Peggy of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Wanda Melton and husband Art of Lone Wolf and Lenda McGuire and husband O.G. of Brookline, Texas; three sisters, Mary Morgan, Betty Bower and Nora Korbett,all of King- fisher; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one infant sister and one granddaughter. --- Robert Lewis Adams: A352 Robert Lewis Adams, 75, of Crescent died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Logan Hospital and Medical Center in Guthrie. Funeral services were held Friday at Davis Funeral Chapel in Guthrie with Pastor Arnold Jones officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Guthrie, under direction of Davis Funeral Home. He was born June 1, 1927, in Princeton, La., to Ruben and Sally McCallum Adams. He married Lottie M. Mosher on June 10, l954, in Guthrie. He was a retired truck driver and cook. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church of God in Guthrie and a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force. He was a bee keeper and a member of the Guthrie Bee Keepers Association. His hobbies were fishing and cooking. Survivors include his wife, Lottie of the home; four sons, Jerry Dale Adams and wife Roquel of Palestine, Texas, Delbert Adams and wife Jennifer of Crescent, Robert Adams Jr. and Ruben Leon Adams and wife Lucinda, all of Guthrie; two daughters, Carolyn Jacques of Crescent and Sandra Ann Adams of Guthrie; two brothers, Kenneth Adams and wife Pearl and John Adams and wife Ann, all of Denton, Texas; four sisters, Maurine Hillard of Paris, Tesas, Bernice Dyer and husband Tom and Linda Sue Harrington, all of Denton, Texas, and Eula Nixon of McLoud, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two daughters, Nelda Adams and Jackie Adams. --- Dennis Ray Myers: M620 Dennis Ray Myers, 55, of Atlanta, Ga., son of Kingfisher resident, Annabell Myers, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Kingfisher Cemetery with Rev. Don Gibson officiating. He was born Sept.15, 1947, in Kingfisher to Earnest and Annabell Thompson Myers. He married Vickie Howard in 1966, and later married Ellen Williams. He was reared in Kingfisher, graduating from Kingfisher High School in 1966. He was employed at Snell Construction Co. at the time of his death. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his mother; two daughters, Pam Myers of Oklahoma City and Kim Wilson of Lackland AFB; one son, Justin Myers of Rex, Ga., and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. --- Dr. Loren Duane Stebens: S315 Dr. Loren Duane Stebens, 71, of Enid, formerly of Loyal, died Wednes- day, Oct. 9, 2002, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid. A graveside service will be held at noon, Saturday, in the Garden Chapel of Memorial Park Cemetery, north of Enid, with Rev. Marvin Good- pasture officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home of Enid. He was born March 2, 1931, in Loyal to Harry and Erma Crist Stebens. He was a graduate of Loyal High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in business, a master of educa- tion and a doctor of education degree from Oklahoma State University. Early in his career, he was an educator and high school coach, serving as principal of Shidler High School and coach of the Shidler girls’ basket- ball team. He later became a nationally certified and state licensed mental health counselor and served as a professional with the Edwin Fair Mental Health Clinic in Ponca City. He also served as a member of the Oklahoma State Mental Health Board. He was an avid golfer and served as a board member of the Ponca City Country Club. Survivors indude his wife of 48 years, Beverly McCoy Stebens of Enid; one son, Kurt David Stebens of Douglas; one brother, Gerald “Chick” Stebens and wife Wahneta of Loyal, and two brothers-in-law, Bob and Pat McCoy. He was preceded in death by his parents. --- James Henry ‘Jim’ Woods: W320 James Henry “Jim” Woods, 65, of Hastings, father of Kingfisher resi- dent Ronnie Woods, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters with Don Crow officiating. Burial will follow in Walters Cemetery. He was born Sept. 3, 1937, at Foster to Henry and Cora Woods. He married Mildred Turner on May 17, 1957, at Chattanooga. He was reared at Chattanooga. In March 1957 he was employed as a lineman’s helper for Cotton Electric. He retired in 1988 and then pursued several other business interests in Walters. He was active in the Walters Jaycees and was currently serving on the Walters Cemetery Association Board. Survivors include his wife, Mildren of the home; father and mother-in- law, Slim and Ruby Turner of Walters; one son-in-law, Eddie Rash and wife Diane of Walters; three sons, Ronnie Woods and wife Amy of Kingfisher, Terry Woods and wife Dixie of Rocksprings, Wyo., Glen Woods and wife Gina of Walters; one daughter Kristi Johnson and husband Tommy of Hartville, Mo.; six brothers, Curt of Lawton, Jack of Velma, Coleman of Wyoming, Lee of Grandfield, Eldon of Hastings and Dan of Bonifay, Fla., and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home in Hennessey. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. She was born June 15, 1911, near Hennessey, to Andrew E. and Venicia Ann Patten Green. She married Rawleigh M. “Jack” Johnson on Oct. 24, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1963. She later married Cliff Parker. She was reared in the Myrtle community near Hennessey and attended Myrtle School. She graduated from Hennessey High School in 1931. She and her husband lived in Loyal and later moved to Council Grove, Kan. She was employed as a nurse’s aid in various hospitals and nursing homes. She moved to Hennessey in 1963, where she managed the Sooner Motel for many years. Following retirement, she moved to Bison then to Mulberry, Ark., for nine years. She moved to Elk City in 1992, where she lived at the time of her death. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Lou Johnson Smith of Elk City; one brother, Andrew Green of Dover; three grandchildren; one step-great- granddaughter, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers and both husbands. --- Clorine Ruth Baird: B630 Clorine Ruth Baird, 78, of Wellington, Kan., mother of Kingfisher resident Kathleen Sue Heinrich, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in the chapel of the Day Funeral Home in Wellington, with Jim L. Thorpe offici- ating. Burial will be in Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington, under direction of Day Funeral Home and Crematory, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kan. 67152. She was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Hillsboro, Kan., to William Eugene and Anna Boehs Quiring. She married Robert Lee “R.L.” Baird on Nov. 8, 1943, in Enid. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage next month. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, R.L., of the home; two sons, Bob Baird and wife Marlene of Derby, Kan., and Richard Baird and wife Kathy of South Haven, Kan.; three daughters, Patricia Scott and husband Lowell of Mound Valley, Kan., Kathleen Sue Heinrich and husband Ted of Kingfisher, and Nancy J. He passed from this life at the age of 42 on Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Boston Avenue Methodist Church. Greg was a 1977 graduate of Kingfisher High School. He attended Okla- homa State University and received his Bachelor’s of Science and his Optometric Doctor degrees from Northeastern State University. In 1984, Greg purchased the optometric practice of Dr. Tom Price which had been ongoing for 100 years. For the past 18 years he had been blessed with patients and staff which had become part of his extended family. He was proud to be part of the Oklahoma Optometric family and the Oklahoma Optometric Association. He met Karen Lynn Tallent while attending OSU and they were married on Aug. 9, 1980. They joined Boston Avenue Methodist Church and the Maranatha Sunday School Class in 1985. He was a member of the Tulsa Southeast Rotary Club for 17 years. Greg is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Karen; his two lovely daughters, Alexis Lynn and Mary Kathryn “Katie” Brownlee, all of the home; his parents, George and Claudette Brownlee of Kingfisher; his brother, Gary Brownlee of Oklahoma City; niece, Erin Cheek and her daughter, Leslie, both of Oklahoma City; parents-in-law, Carrell and Carlene Tallent of Tulsa; and the entire Tallent family of 22; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was born Feb. 26, 1912, on a farm three miles west of Hennessey to David Garfield and Gertye Elizabeth Bailey Troyer. She married Cecil LeRoy “Bill” Craun in Perry on July 27, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1976. She attended Maple Grove School. She was an active farm wife and a member of the Willing Workers Club. Chauncy Moody officiating. Burial followed in the Banner Cemetery. She was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Waycross, Ga., to Daniel and Mary Branson Smith. She married John W. Terrell on Oct. 1,1944. He preceded her in death in 1989. After his service in the Army Air Corps, they moved to Dover. She was head cook at Dover Public School for several years before working at Pioneer Telephone Cooperative as an operator, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Melissa was a 2001 honor graduate of Kingfisher High School where she was active in basketball, student council, speech and drama. She attended Oklahoma State University and was currently enrolled at Pima Community College in Tucson. She was an active member of the Federated Church and youth group. Melissa will always be remembered by those who loved her for her enthusiasm for life, her compassionate spirit, her love of competition and her sparkling blue eyes. She graduated from Cashion High School. She was employed as an office manager at Kemph-Munsinger, retiring in 1986. She was a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Chastain, 87, of Hennessey, mother of Hennessey Newspaper Co-Publisher Barbara Walter, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Hennessey Care Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Hennessey First United Methodist Church with Rev. Liz Brown officiating. Burial of cremains was in Hennessey Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. She was born May 18,1915, in Oregon County, near Koshkonong, Mo. to Charles and Josephine French. She married Thomas Edward ‘Tom” Chastain on April 3, 1935, in Mammoth Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1995. She attended school in Koshkonong. She and her husband lived in Koshkonong, where he bought and traded livestock. They later lived in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., before moving to Oklahoma in 1940. They moved to Hennessey in 1987. She was a homemaker and was employed at the first Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in l953, retiring in 1980. She was a preschool elementary education director at the church and in starting a Mother's Day Out program in the late 1950s. She later directed a full-time child care program at the church. She was a member of Hennessey First United Methodist Church and Hennessey Senior Citizen Center. She had been a resident of the care center since January and was a volunteer at the center for several years. She was named Volunteer of the Year at the center in 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara A. Walter and husband William of Hennessey; one grandson; four step-grandchildren, and seven step- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, two sisters and five brothers. --- David ‘Kent’ Santee: S530 David “Kent” Santee, 55, of Ardmore died Tuesday, Oct.22, 2002. A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Friday at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City with Dr. Robert Gorrell officiating. Burial is under di- rection of Craddock Funeral Home of Ardmore. He was born July 10, 1947, in Tulsa to Gwaultney Comer “G.C.” and Delihiah Maxine Watts Santee. He married Barbara Stout on Aug. 9, 1986, in Tulsa. He was a 1965 graduate of Classen High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966. He served as an Army security agent and was honorably discharged on Dec. 19, 1969. He received his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from OCU in 1977 and went to work for the State of Oklahoma Department of Corrections. In 1987, he transferred to the Department of Human Services. He moved from Oklahoma City to Ardmore in 1992 and worked five more years as a child welfare supervisor in the Carter and Love County offices, before retiring in 1997. Through the OK Conference of the United Methodist Church, he served on the board of directors for the Circle of Care. He was an active member of the FUMC of Ardmore and the Crosspoint Emmaus Community. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; mother, Deliliah Maxine Santee Graham of Yukon; one sister, Susie Pritchett and husband Edd of Cashion, and one brother, Stuart Watts Santee and wife Norma Jean of Granbury, Texas.
