A memorial service was set for 1 p.m. Saturday in the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel Smith Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow in the Yukon Cemetery. He was born Nov. 27,1920, in Slick to John Issac and Eva Engle Harboldt. He married Pauline Covington in 1951. She preceded him in death in June 1999. Survivors include three daughters, Jama Ruth Carlton of Wichita, Kan., Eva Dianne Olson of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Pamela Kaye A. Simonel and husband Darnell of Arlington, Va.; one son, John W. Auber Harboldt Jr. and wife Mary Jane of North Providence, RI.; five sisters, Dr. Ellen Oakes of Oklahoma City, Mary Inge of Bella Vista, Ark., and Elizabeth Finley, Maizie Mecum and Jane Finley, all of Surprise, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother. --- Ivan Dewayne Gilbert: G416 Ivan Dewayne Gilbert, 51, of Woodstock, Ga., father of Kingfisher residents Eric Gilbert and Dakota Gilbert, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Kinnestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sosebee Memorial Home in Canton, Ga. He was born Sept. 27, 1951, at Clinton to Willard and Edna Gilbert. He was a 1969 graduate of Colony High School. Survivors include his wife, Jackie of the home; three sons, Eric Gilbert and Dakota Gilbert, both of Kingfisher, and Chance Gilbert of Sallisaw; two sisters, Norma Westnidge of Newcastle and Edith Wells of Vian; two stepchildren, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Wisper Dawn Gilbert. --- Nellie Cross: C620 Nellie Cross, 92, lifelong resident of the Kingfisher area, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Kingfisher Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, in the Federated Church with Rev. Leon Seaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Kingfisher Cemetery. She was born Sept. 3, 1910, to Ira and Hattie Yount Barnett. She married Clarence B. Cross on Dec. 31, 1926. She was a member of the Federated Church and the Alpha Home Demonstration Club. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo Yoder of Kingfisher; two sons, Floyd Cross and wife Bernice of Kingfisher and Clifford Cross of Crescent; one brother, Raymond “Mike” Barnett of Kingfisher; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hennessey Cemetery officiated by Rev. Bill Choate. Burial was under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home of Hennessey. He was born on Oct. 17,1927, near Lacy to Glen and Hazel Beatrice Choate Macy. He was a WWII veteran and was employed in construction his entire life. Survivors indude one son, Gary Macy and wife Diane; one brother, Gene Macy and wife Shirley, all of Hennessey; two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one sister. ********************************************************************************* Sunday, November 10, 2002 Elsie Ann ‘Oppel’ Johnson: J525 Elsie Ann “Oppel” Johnson, 71, of Kingfisher died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. David Krepel officiating. Burial will follow in Kingfisher Cemetery. She was born Feb. 26, 1931, in Omega to John and Jennie Yearout Oppel. She graduated from Omega High School. She attended business college in Oklahoma City for two years. She married Verdean Johnson on Oct. 5, 1952, in Kingfisher. He preceded her in death in 1979. They farmed in the Big Four area for 26 years. Following his death, she continu- ed to farm with her son until 1992. She moved to Kingfisher in 2001 and was a member of the Emmanual Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son, Randy Johnson of Kingfisher; three daughters, Candace Johnson of Kingfisher, Terrye Metscher of Covington and Sherrye Van Osdol of Edmond; one sister, Joy L. Roggow of Breckinridge, and six grandchildren. --- Maxine Handy McDaniel: M235 Maxine Handy McDaniel, 72, of El Reno, sister of Kingfisher resident Lucille Hudson, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in El Reno. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in El Reno with Rev. Raymond Handy officiating. Burial will follow in El Reno Cemetery, under direction of Russworm Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Kingfisher to Robert and Eunice Handy. She married Donald Ray McDaniel in 1947. She attended school at Douglass Elementary School in Kingfisher. The family moved to El Reno in 1945, and she attended Booker T. Washington School. She was a member of the Bethel AME Church. Survivors include her husband, Donald of the home; three sons, Edward Ray McDaniel and wife Stella of Dallas, Texas, and Dwight Allen McDaniel and wife Estella and Trenton Don McDaniel, all of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Benita Rochelle McDaniel of El Reno; four brothers, Robert Handy of Topeka, Kan., Rev. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher, where she was a member for 67 years. Rev. Darryl Owen will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Kingfisher Cemetery. She was born April 16, 1919, in Rush Springs to Ralph E. and Mamie Hayes. She married George William Harrison on Dec. 15, 1940, in Muskogee. She was a 1937 graduate of Kingfisher High School. She attended Anadarko Busi- ness College. She and her husband farmed for more than 61 years on the family farm northwest of Kingfisher. She was a member of the Sweet Pea Garden Club since 1940, Kingfisher Study Club, Kingfisher Valley Homemakers, life member of the Kingfisher County Farm Bureau, Kingfisher United Methodist Church Circle - Morning Glories, and craft club. Survivors include her husband, George of the home; one sister, Genevieve McLaughlin of Haines City; Fla.; two sons, Bill and wife Norma of Amarillo, Texas, and Ralph and wife Denise of Kingfisher; one daughter, Dian and husband Norm of Claremore; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Lubbock, Texas, to Leonard Willis and Kathryn Luckett England. She married Larry Smith on July 5, 1991, in Kingfisher. She graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1967 and attended the University of Central Oklahoma. She was employed at Kingfisher Regional Hospital and the Kingfisher Family Care Clinic for 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Larry of the home; one daughter, Shannon Snider and husband Zach of Kingfisher; four sons, Judd Campbell of Plano,Texas, and Joshua Campbell, Steven Smith and wife Brenda and Shawn Smith and wife Janna, all of Kingfisher, and five grandchildren. Mark Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, under direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 21, 1927, near Hennessey to Frank C. and Josephine Patocka Vculek. She married Albert J. Pipla on Sept. 24, 1947, in Hennessey. She was a member of St. Camillus Catholic Church and St. Camillus Altar Society in Marshall. Survivors indude one daughter, Barbara Mongold of Hennessey; one son, David Pipla of Marshall; one sister, Helen Vculek of Hennessey, and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. and husband, Albert. --- Hazel May Webber: W160 Hazel May Webber, 88, of Cathedral City, Calif., formerly of Dover, died Thurs- day, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Desert Manor in Yucca Valley, Calif. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the New Home Cemetery, east of Loyal. She was born Dec. 25,1913, in Dover to Warren H. and Constance Elly Adaline Cheever Colton. She married Theron A. Webber on Dec. 25, 1933, in El Dorado, Kan. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7,1992. She graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1931. Following graduation, she was employed as a clerk at city hall in Kingfisher. She was reared on a farm in Dover. She was a member of the Eastern Star, receiving her 50 year pin in 2001. Survivors inluude two sons, Theron Angus Jr. and wife Loucinda of Bellflower, Calif., and Gerald Warren and wife Mary Lee of Cathedral City; four sisters-in-law, Mildred Carter of Kingfisher, Pauline “Peggy” Wells of Oklahoma City, Amanda Colton of Dover and Elizabeth Suzanna “Betty” Joldersma of Lawndale, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was born March 29, 1911, east of Hennessey to Howard and Effie Jane Wilson Wheeler. She married William B. McCully in 1928. The couple lived and farmed east of Hennessey. He preceded her in death in 1959. She married Ed Rich on June 18, 1962. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was a former member of the WCTU and the Union Chapel Church. Survivors include two sons, Ben McCully and wife Ruth of Kingfisher and Bob McCully and wife Betty of Hennessey; one daughter, Jackie Spillman and husband J.D. of Perry; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, second husband, three brothers and two sisters. --- James M. Tinder: T536 James “Jim” M. Tinder, 53, of Enid, formerly of Kingfisher, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Ladusau-Evans Chapel in Enid. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Kingfisher Cemetery, under direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. He was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Kingfisher to Herbert and Gladys Ross Tinder. He attended Lincoln and Garfield Elementary schools and attended Opportunity schools. He was a member of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his father, Herbert; three sisters, Marie Melvin of Enid, Lois Sterling of Centennial, Colo., and Margaret Pierson of Converse, Texas, and two brothers, Jack F. Tinder of Edmond and Dean A. Tinder of Bailey, Colo. She was born March 31, 1913, in Kingsdown, Kan., to Luther and Inez Alspach Craycraft. She married Orlin 0. Crone on Jan. 16, 1935, at Kinsley, Kan. She was a lifetime member of the Christian Church, the Fenney Chapter 359 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Garden City, Kan, and a past member of the Lilac Garden Club. Survivors include one son, Dear Crone of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Orlene Van Campen of Watsonville, Calif.; four sisters, Bessie Overman of Colo- rado Springs, Colo., Sylvia Crumpton of Dallas, Texas, Joyce Yarbrough of Green Forest, Ark., and Wanda Crone of Kingfisher; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers. --- Michael T. Conover: C516 Michael T. Conover, 42, of Tulsa, formerly of Kingfisher, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Kingfisher Regional Hospital. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blackwell Cemetery. He was born April 13, 1960, in Wichita, Kan., to Bob and Mabel Conover. He attended Kingfisher High School. He was co-owner of Kids Luv Us Daycare in Tulsa. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mabel and Tom Andrews of King- fisher; four brothers, Robert Conover of Midwest City, Robb Conover of Dallas, Texas, David Conover of Tulsa and James Conover and wife Jodi of Kingfisher, and two sisters, Tammy Conover of Tulsa and Latisha Clark of Kingfisher. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father. --- Laverne Hoskins Koen: K500 Laverne Hoskins Koen, 85, of Loyal died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in Kingfisher Regional Hospital. Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in Loyal Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Barr officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Home Cemetery. She was born June 22, l917 in Kingfisher to Arthur L. and Elguyva Benson Altizer. She was married to Kenneth Eugene Hoskins of Loyal. She later married Eugene H. Koen in July 1962, at Clayton, N.M. She was a 1935 graduate of Kingfisher High School. She was a lifetime member of Loyal United Methodist Church, WSCS and active in the community. Survivors include two sons, Jim Hoskins of Cashion and Terry Hoskins of Edmond; two daughters, Jane Hill of Georgetown, Texas, and Charlotte Strahan of Pottsboro, Texas; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and four brothers; Bill Altizer, Dale Altizer, Everett Altizer and Wesley Altizer. ********************************************************************************* Sunday, November 24, 2002 Laverne Tompkins: T512 Laverne Tompkins, 84, of Lawton, mother of Kingfisher resident Iva Nell Wetzel, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Kingfisher. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22,2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Walters with Dr. Kip Wright officiating. Burial was in the Walters Cemetery, under direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home of Walters. Oneda Laverne Tompkins was born to William Jay and Dovie Mae (Walker) Howard on Aug. 26, 1918, in the Mt. View community northeast of Walters at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 24 days. Laverne grew up in the Walters area, attending rural schools before graduating from Walters High School. She married Ivan Tompkins on Nov. 20, 1941, at Waurika, and to this union two children were born. Mrs. Tompkins worked at the Thompson Theater, east of Walters before moving to Lawton in 1969, where she worked at Butler’s Department Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Walters. Survivors include her husband, Ivan of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Iva Nell and Ron Wetzel of Kingfisher, OK; a son, Donald Jay Tompkins of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandchildren, Russell Wayne Wetzel of Washington, D.C., and Richard Wade Wetzel and his wife Leigh of Plano, Texas; other relatives and many friends. Crone: (See November 20, 2002) --- Leo Peil: P400 Leo Peil, 82, of Canton, father of Kingfisher resident Vicki Weber, died Wed- nesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the Fairview Hospital. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Canton Cemetery, under direction of Haigler Funeral Home. He was born June 25, 1920, at Homestead to Fred and Theresia Weber Peil. He married Darla Bedwell on Jan 3, 1942, at Watonga. She preceded him in death in 1982. He later married Ann Gould. She preceded him in death in 1996. He attended Liberty School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII. He was stationed in the European Theater and was present at the landing on Normandy Beach. He was employed by Blaine County, the United States Gypsum Company and later for the United States Corp of Engineers. He was a member of the First Chris tian Church, Enid Moose Lodge and a former member of the Sooner Riders Motorcycle Club. He was an amateur radio operator. His hobbies were camping, traveling and fishing. Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Weber and husband Gary of Kingfisher; one brother, Raymond Peil of El Reno; two granddaughters, and three great-grand- daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, two brothers and one infant sister. --- Steven Carl Lindholm: L534 Steven Carl Lindholm, 60, of Crescent died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Crescent. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Abernathy Funeral Chapel in Crescent with Pastor Mark LeMarr and Revs. Gerald Biswell and Edwin House officia- ting. Burial was in Crescent Cemetery. He was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Salina, Kan., to Paul C.. and Laura Spohn Lindholm. He married Glenda Dettmer on Oct. 24, 1967. He owned and operated Abernathy Funeral Home in Crescent for 20 plus years. He was instrumental in starting the Ministerial Alliance of Crescent in 1984. He owned a farm northeast of Crescent. Survivors include his wife, Glenda of the home; one daughter, Tina Rother and husband Steve of Cashion; one son, Eric Lindholm and wife Lori of Crescent, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. --- Cleve Ervin Jim Hunt Jr.: H530 Cleve Ervin Jim Hunt Jr., 74, of Guthrie died Tuesday, Nov. 19,2002, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. A memorial service was set for 1 p.m. Saturday, at the VFW in Guthrie. He was born Sept. 25, 1928, to Ervin and Hattie Dees Hunt. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy, and later as an aerial photo- grapher in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as an electrical engineer. He was a member of IBEW, American Legion and the VEW. He served as VFW post commander in Guthrie. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Kingfisher Lodge since 1971. He was the Logan County representative of the Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature. During retirement, he was active in Democratic politics. Survivors include two daughters, Debra Hunt-Lee of San Jose, Calif. and Sandee Hunt of Guthrie; four sons, Bob Hunt of Antioch, Calif., John Hunt of Lake Charles, La., Mark Chambers of Del City and James Hunt of Guthrie; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Edna Webb, and one brother, Lloyd Dunham. --- Mildred Lorene Evans: E152 Mildred Lorene “Millie” Evans, 70, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Kingfisher, died Tuesday, Nov. 19,2002. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Christian Fellowship in Oklahoma City, under direction of Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Bigelow, Ark., to J. Mitchell and Bessie Britt. She married Albert H. Evans Jr. on April 15, 1948. They lived in Kingfisher and Stillwater, before settling in Oklahoma City, where they owned and operated Albert Evans Piano Company. Survivors include her husband, Albert of the home; one daughter, Elaine Walters and husband Dale of Houston, Texas; two sons, Steve Evans and wife Gloria of Mustang and Phillip Evans and wife Valorie of Houston; one daughter-in-law, Julie Evans of Oklahoma City; one brother, Ivan Britt of Kansas; one sister, Nadine Campbell of Kansas, and nine grandchildren. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, Kan., under direction of Abernathy Funeral Home in Crescent. She was born April 15, 1909, in Joplin, Mo., to Charles Henry Clizbe and Nellie May Short. She married Jesse Ivan Palmer on June 22, 1928, in Wichita, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1981. --- Gene Grape: G610 Gene Grape, 57, of Kingfisher died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Kingfisher Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Street Baptist Church in Kingfisher with the Rev. Kirk Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Banner Cemetery. He was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Dover to Charley and Sarah Hipple Grape. He graduated from Dover High School in 1964. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard. On Jan. 31, 1967, he married Virginia Roundtree in Kingfisher. He was employed at Bill’s DX and later Bill’s Sinclair Station for 30 years. He was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of the home; two daughters, Angela Hamm and Kriste Clinesmith, both of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Grover of Dover, Harlan and Harry, both of Texas; two sisters, Georgia McVey of Prairie Grove, Ark., and Mary Adams of Hennessey, and two grandchildren.
