August 25, 1879. He lived with his parents neary Agency until he was a lad of 12 years of age. The family then moved to Indian Territory and settled in Kingfisher. It was here that Mr. Payne met and was married to Miss Elsie E. Robertson. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Payme moved to old Day County which is now a part of Ellis ccounty. Here they both united with the Methodist church. In 1911 they moved to Roger Mils County, residing on a farm southwest of Cheyenne. In 1921 Mr. and Mrs. Payne moved to Cheyenne and have resided here since. After an illness of a serious nature which has lasted more or less continuously since September 1933, Mr. Payne quietly passed away on June 13, 1935, at his home in this city. Mr. Payne is survived by his wife Mrs. Elsie Payne, her father, Mr. J.F. Robertson, and six children. They are W.F., Roy, Ralph and Richard Payne, Mrs. Ruby Maddux and Elsie Gertrude Payne. He has three living brothers, J.R. Payne of Kansas City, Mo., Ben Payne of Cisco, Texas, and Joe Payne of Cheyenne; and one sister Mrs. Vernon Alcorn of Alpough, California. Besides his family and brothers aqnd sisters, he had eight grand childdren and a host of other relatives and many friends. Those who knew him remember his friendship as a thing of joy, and his sunny disposition as a thing of beauty. The interment was made in the Cheyenne Cemetery June 16, 1935. The Tunnard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements and services cconducted by Rev. Dwight R. Hunt, pastor of the Methodist church and assisted by Rev. J.H. Bradley, pastor of the Baptist church. Mr. Payne was a man full of compassion for his fellowman who was in trouble or in illness. His sympathetic heart alway went out to the afflicted and to those who were in sorrow. His sympathy and assistance was always looked forward to by those of this community when sympathy and assistance was needed.
