Mr. Slief passed away about three-thirty o'clock Saturday. Father Geeraert of Elk City was called and the last sacraments of his church administered after which he quetly passed from life. The body was taken to Kingfisher where burial services were held Monday afternoon, August 18, 1930. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Theo Van Hulse, pastor of the Sts. Peter and Paul church of that city, assisted by Rev. Geeraert of Elk City, Oklahoma. Mr. Slief was an 89'er, having been the first wagon to unload at Dover, Oklahoma. Anton John Slief was born in Didam, Holland (or Providence of Neterland) September 18, 1857 and died in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, August 16, 1930. He came to America in 1883. He was married to Johanna Elsenrath February 14, 1885 at Newton, Kansas. He homesteaded at Dover, Oklahoma in 1889 and lived there until 1911 when he moved to Oklahoma City. In 1913 he moved to C____? Oklahoma and since that time has lived at Rogers, Arkansas, until about two years ago when he came to Cheyenne, Oklahoma to reside with his daughter, Miss Minnie R. Slief of the Slief-Vaughn Abstract Company. He leaves the following children: Mrs. J.P. Jueschke, Hayden, New Mexico, Minnie R. Slief, Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Golda B. Slief, Oklahoma City; Mrs. A.G.T. Vaughn, Altus, Oklahoma, Walter and William Slief of Wellston, Kansas, and Floyd L. Slief of Oklahoma City. He also leaves 17 grandchildren. All of the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. J.P. Juneschke. He also leaves one sister. Mrs. Theresa Slief-Verhey of London, England.
