All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== :: Arnold, Ione Ione Arnold was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Snyder, Okla., to the home of Nellie and H.G. Shulk. She passed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 94 years and 3 months. Ione grew up in Snyder, Okla., where she attended school. She then attended Southwestern State Teacher's College in Weatherford, Okla. On Dec. 14, 1936, in Oklahoma, she was married to Paul L. Arnold. They lived in various places following her husband's work before settling in Espanola, N.M., where they lived for 33 years. There, in addition to being a devoted homemaker, she worked in her home as a seamstress for the public. In 1980, they moved to Kerrville, Texas., for a short time before moving to Portales. Ione resided in Portales until 2004, when she moved to Amarillo, to live with her daughter, Barbara. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and had served as Treasurer for the Ladies Associates with the New Mexico Christian Children's Home. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, beadwork and all types of crafts. She was also an avid gardener and was devoted to her family and church. Ione is remembered as a kind and generous lady with a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sue Arnold, of Amarillo, Texas and Frank and Bellena Arnold, of Bozeman, Mont.; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara and Cecil Burch, of Amarillo, Texas, Jacque Smith, of Edgewood, N.M., Alice and Bill Turnbow, of Portales, N.M., Saundra and Bruce McIndoe, of San Diego, Calif. and Robbie Lambert, of Santa Fe, N.M.; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Lee Roy Shulk; a grandson, Bobby Arnold; and by her husband of 61 years, Paul L. Arnold, who died Apr. 7, 1998. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at 2:00 P.M., at the Third & Kilgore Church of Christ, in Portales. David Bennett and P.B. Middlebrook will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Arnold's memory to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 Hwy 236, Portales, NM 88130.
