Coker, 88, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 12, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Paul Sneed of Central Church of Christ and Dr. Jim Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Mr. Coker was born in Sinton and moved to Amarillo in 1941. He married Mayme Earley in 1929 at Hobart, Okla. He graduated from Central State Teachers College in Edmond, Okla., with a degree in mathematics. He played football and participated in track and field while attending CSTC. He was drafted by the government to teach welding at Amarillo College during World War II. He owned and operated Coker's Weldrite Welding Service for more than 40 years before selling it in 1984. Mr. Coker was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.
