Cude, 80, died March 4, 2003 at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad, CA after a lengthly illness. He was born on October 10, 1922 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma and lived most of his adult life in Tucson. Mr. Cude grew up in rural Oklahoma and after graduation from high school received training in the National Youth Administration Radio School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps where he served as a radio operator and radio school instructor for the duration of his military service. This included a tour of duty in the Philippine Islands, during the latter stages of World War II where he shared responsibilities for the communications operation in Manila. Mr. Cude was an avid ham radio enthusiast, both voice and code, for the rest of his life. After leaving the military in 1945 he relocated to Los Angeles and then to Seattle, where he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co for eight years. He then moved with his family to Tucson, AZ where he worked as a senior electronics technician with Hughes Aircraft Co for 26 years. During that time he was actively involved as a Shriner in helping to seek treatment for children with serious burn injuries. He spent considerable time arranging transportation for children that were being transported from Mexico, through Tucson and then to the Shriner's Hospital for treatment in Los Angeles. Mr. Cude also worked many years as a volunteer reader on the radio for the Tucson Assn. for the Blind. He spent his later years working on the family's new home in Elgin. Mr. Cude was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie. He is survived by sons, Jesse Cude of Salinas and Dana Cude of Elgin; grandchildren, Jesse Cude of Santa Rosa; Michael Cude of Blythe; Craig Cude of Prescott; Kelly Cude of Seattle; and Gavin Cude of Elgin. A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. It is requested that memorial contributions be sent to the Sabbar Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 450 S.
