All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Hobart Cemetery--Hobart OK January 27, 1933 - Hobart, Kiowa County, Oklahoma BOY RISKS LIFE IN FATAL BLAZE Grandmother of Lad Dies From Burns Twelve-year old Water Crisp was being declared a hero as funeral were being held this afternoon for his aged grandmother, Mrs. Katie Crisp, fatally burned when her apron caught from a fire she was attempting to kindle at her son's home one-half mile west of Hobart yesterday afternoon. The youngster received painful burns on both hands and arms when he attempted to smother out the flames that enveloped the old lady from head to foot and succeeded in tearing much of her burning clothing away. However, she had inhaled some of the flames, and her burns were so serious that she died at 6:30 this morning. Mrs. Crisp would have been 85 years of age Feb. 7. Members of the ??? Aid Association are assisting the family in arranging for the burial as they are in very needy circumstances. Rev. Martin T. Pope was expected to officiate, with burial at the Hobart Cemetery. Aside from her son, Andy Crisp, with whom she lived, the aged woman is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Josie Ratliff, Carnegie; and Mrs. Mandy Southard, Dibble, both of whom are her for the services; Mrs. Ida Brake, Texas, Mrs. Ottie Ratliff, Mrs. Ada Coleman and Mrs. Viola Welch, Bristow. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Kiowa County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/kiowa/kiowa.html
