All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Loren Echols 1916 - 2008 After a full professional and family life, at the age of 92 Loren Echols died suddenly of natural causes on November 20, 2008. He lived at home in Escondido and is survived by Betty Echols, his wife of 62 years. Loren was preceded in death by daughter, Kathryn. He is also survived by his children, Barbara Clingwald of Carpinteria, John Echols of Atascadero and Curt Echols of Escondido. Loren's nieces and nephews, grandchildren and new great-grandson comprise the family he loved and that will miss him. Born on July 16, 1916, in Gotebo, Oklahoma, his family moved to California, where Loren graduated from Bakersfield High School. During WWII, he served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. His honors included The Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign, European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign with 3 Stars, WWII Victory. As a bombardier he served in the North African and Mediterranean Theaters, flying in 56 missions. Following his service in the Korean War he returned to Bakersfield and resumed a life in farming. In 1952 he began his career with the Department of Agriculture as a surveyor and became the manager in the 20-year course of his career. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife. The family is holding a private service on Saturday, December 6, in Escondido, CA.
