All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Lemoore Cemetery--Lemoore CA Garrett-Jackson, Dora Maybelle (Mock) Dora Maybelle Garrett-Jackson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 in a Hanford care facility at the age of 98 years. Dora was born May 22, 1908 at Carnegie, Okla. Her parents, Russell and Martha Mock had gone from Kansas in the rush to get property in Oklahoma territory. They settled in Kiowa County and lived in a sod dugout where Dora's oldest brother Charlie was born. He was the first white child born in Kiowa County and was named by the Indians. There followed a daughter, Martha, and after four more boys, a little daughter, who was Dora. She was the last child and was spoiled by her dad. He was a constable and spent much time in Oklahoma City. He always brought Dora toys and pretty jewelry. Dora met her husband, Cecil Garrett, in Carnegie, Okla. and they married when Dora was 16 years old. They moved to California in the early 1930's and lived and worked in the fishing industry around Watsonville, Salinas and Moss Landing. From there they came to the San Joaquin Valley where they did commercial harvesting for many years. She was a member of the Lemoore Church of the Nazarene for many years. The last few years of Dora's life were spent in a nursing home in Hanford. Dora is survived by two sons, Gary C. Garrett and wife Faye of Hanford and Kenneth Garrett and wife Margie of Lemoore; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m., Friday in the Lemoore Cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore.
