All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Published in the Fresno Bee on 1/15/2004 Ray Houck Businessman, rancher, and our father, Ray Houck, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2004, one day before his 83rd birthday. Born on January 11, 1921, in Mountain View, OK, the son of Tomas Earnest Houck and Pearl Electa Goodwin Houck, Ray graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1943. He was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. During World War II, Houck served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, saw service in New Guinea, and received a Purple Heart. After the war, Ray became an Agricultural Advisor to the County of Fresno, CA and an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis. Living in Clovis, CA, he married Caryl Jeanne Bashore. The couple had three children. From 1968 to 1978, Ray was Vice President of Norbest Turkeys, Inc. in Salt Lake City, UT. During that time, he also served on the Vestry of The Cathedral Church of Saint Mark. Semi retired, he returned to Clovis, CA to become a real estate broker and investor, earning several awards for his service, honesty, and integrity. Ray and his wife retired to Portland. OR in 1990 where he served on the Summerfield Homeowners Association Board. To his family, Ray gave the gift of unconditional love and selfless sacrifice, a constant example of kindness and honesty. He will continue to inspire us as we raise our own families. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Caryl Jeanne Bashore Houck of Clackamas, OR; three children, Barbara Houck-Priest of Sherwood, OR, Martin Ray Houck and his wife Rebeccca of Salt Lake City, UT, and Steven Winter Houck and his wife Sherisse of Monrovia, CA; by his brother Burl Houck and his wife Etta of Fresno, CA: and twograndchildren, Erica and Michael. A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for his Life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 11511 SW Bull Mountain Road, in Tigard, OR on Friday, January 16, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163 or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
