All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Clovis Cemetery--Clovis CA Holland, Dona Pope DONA POPE HOLLAND Dona passed away in her sleep on Saturday, July 1, 2006, surrounded by her family at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Holland; two sons, Leroy and Tracy Pope; and her brothers, Jonas and Otho Cox of Oregon. Dona was born on November 4, 1914, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Benjamin and Nellie Cox. She traveled the plains of Texas and New Mexico in a covered wagon until she was twelve. The family homesteaded land in Portales, New Mexico. They grew peanuts and sweet potatoes. She rode three miles to school everyday on a horse. The depression caused the family to move to Arizona to work the gold mines of Globe and Octave. The family moved to Los Angeles until 1939, when the Friant Dam started construction so they moved to Clovis to work. Dona worked at the Cameo Winery until WWII. She became a Rosie the Riveter for Lockheed Vega in Burbank until they transferred her to Fresno to work on D-17 parts. She was a member of Clovis Free Methodist Church, Old Time Fiddlers, Pinedale Senior Center, a Charter member of Clovis Botanical Gardens, past president of Clovis Women's Club, and a past member of TOPS of Clovis. Dona was a go-getter, honest and hard working. She especially loved her flowers and her garden. She was this family's Wagon Master and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Flo Jean Walsh of Fresno; a sister, Mary Britton of Fresno; and a brother, Dea Cox of Clovis. She has nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Clovis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Clovis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Clovis Cemetery.
